I had let my dog go out and play for more then 5 hours outside. When i got her in it did not look at all. She was walking on three legs. I though she was joking around. My fh came home and saw what i saw. He looked at it and she cut it on the fence or some glass. So we though we would bring her to the vet the day before new year's day. She had to get six stitchs in her paw. The Doctor told me that if it was any closer she would have had to get some bone may have to be fix. She gets the stitchs out on the 11th. Right now she has a cone on and a bandage on the stitchs. She does not like to wear the cone at all.

Re: Be careful.
Thank God your dog will be okay. I'm so sorry to hear what happened to her. My dog is also wearing a cone right now. He was neutered last Monday and we have one more week to go. Does your dog try to get it off also? I keep checking to assure that it's still tight enough because he just may. I also need to be sure he doesn't hurt that area because he doesn't have a bandage on. Are you finding ways to keep her busy and stimulated? Scooby seems to be sleeping a lot more and when he's not, he wants to be carried or just sit on my lap. I hold him alot! I think I'm going to have one spoiled puppy on my hands by the time this cone comes off. Do you hold your dog also? I swear, they are just like babies!!
Good luck.

Re: Be careful.
Watch that the cone is on properly. I still can't believe what happened to Scooby. Each day he was getting less and less interested in things around him. This morning was the absolute worse. He refused to eat, drink, accept any of his treats, play or even walk around. He wasn't responding to anything and he really scared us. We spoke to the vet and we were getting ready to take him in when I decided since we were holding him constantly anyway, that we could take off the cone and give him a break. I figured the vet could put it back on for us. Well, I found his rabies heart tag was intertwined with his hair under the cone. He's a Maltese so he has long hair. Poor Scooby must have been in a lot of pain with this thing pulling at him each time he moved. My heart broke for him. I had to snip it out and we left him without the collar or cone for some time. He started to act more himself and after much coaxing with his treat, he started to eat and drink. Then he picked up and finished even a second portion of food and went to the potty. I can't tell you how relieved we are right now. He's sleeping contentedly and I'm so glad we didn't have to go running to the vet after all. I hope everything is working out with you. The 12th is right around the corner. I have to wait til the 15th, at least.

That is not that far away. Mine has now getting into everything. She is driving me nuts sometimes. I let her be free for almost one week. Now she is chewing on everything and i had to put her back into the cage.

It seems like forever! He wants to be held all the time and I'm afraid we won't be able to break him of this once the cone is off. I couldn't even vacuum today - and he was able to watch me too. He peed on the kitchen floor because I was ignoring him. I still love him to pieces, and feel so sorry for him.
Someone from a Maltese website gave me a suggestion that may work for you. Test her sense of smell with some herbs or spice that you think she may not like. When you find one she walks away from (nutmeg worked for me, rosemary for the lady who made the suggestion), put some on a piece of plastic wrap and roll it up like a long straw. Wrap this around the leg of whatever she is chewing. Another suggestion I read was to inflate some balloons and put bitter apple inside it. When she goes to chew, the balloon will break and she will get that smell.
