Be careful! 'Ring bandit'

Cops: Ring bandit may have struck again
A North Merrick woman robbed of her rings at gunpoint Wednesday night in the driveway of her home may have been the victim of a bandit who steals women's rings, Nassau police said.
The robbery occurred about 8:50 p.m. when the woman, 59, had gone to retrieve a package from her car parked at her Chapin Avenue home. She was then grabbed from behind by a man, who put her in a headlock, police said.
He demanded she take off her rings as he pushed her toward the house.
'At this point, our assailant drags her back into her house. He's demanding that she remove her rings from her hands,' said Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a police spokesman.
He then took out a handgun and pushed it against the woman's chest but once inside the house he was confronted by the woman's husband. He ran away with the rings, heading toward the Meadowbrook Parkway in Roosevelt.
The woman was not injured, though her fingers hurt from having rings yanked off them.
First Squad detectives are also investigating whether the man being sought also committed several burglaries Wednesday, police said.
In a possibly related crime, on Oct. 2 a man entered a nearby home on Michael William Road in Merrick through an unlocked rear door, walked into the living room, grabbed a pocket book -- and pulled an engagement ring and a wedding band off the fingers of a 30-year-old woman, police said.
