BE HAPPY YOU ARE BORN IN AMERICA!

BE HAPPY YOU ARE BORN IN AMERICA!

we take for granted the liberties that we are given as americans...like being able to take your passport and travel to most any place in the world without visas, applications, fees, and red tape!

i just got done doing invitation letters, making copies of my passport, income taxes, and going to a notary; that will all be sent to my aunts & uncles in Peru, so that they will be able to go to the American Embassy out there, in hopes of obtaining visas to temporarily travel to the United States for my wedding.

it's amazing how much they have to do to try and get permission to come here for a 1 wk vacation. and there's no guarantee that they will even be GRANTED the visas....this is kind of a long shot. but we'll see how it goes!

I understand!!!! Most of FH's family (exluding parents and siblings) are in Ecuador... and I don't even think that they'll be able to get the visas to come to our wedding!

It's such an unfortunate situation....

I hear ya. I'm trying to see if my aunt and cousin can come from another country as well. I didn't mail copies of my passport,, but I mailed a letter from, me, the STD card and magnet, and a notarized letter from my hall. They have someone there who is a notary so that was great. When I get invitations I'm mailing that out ASAP as well.

Do I need to send everything you sent copies of as well? Is it more helpful?

I give my students that lecture when we talk about the words to the Star Spangled Banner (music teacher)

Plus you really see it when you go out of the country - big difference!

wow!! that stinks!! Is it only certain countries that need visas to come here?? All of my family on my mom's side is in Finland, and I know a few of them will be coming for our wedding.....now I'm wondering if I'll need to send them paperwork.

oh THANK GOD Vinny's father is not inviting his relatives from Italy-- they told me that they are too old to travel so we will just call them and tell them that we would love to have them there but oh well, what can you do? Surprisingly, Vinny's father doesn't give a CRAP about the fact that they are not coming-- he is so funny!

That stinks though Mel-- so sorry!!! I hope they are able to come SO much!!!!!!!! Good luck with everything--

i'm sending an invitation to them as well, on top of the other stuff. it depends on the country and situation. i do immigration paperwork for a living, so i'm a 'better safe than sorry' kind of person. like if you say you want someone to come visit you for an extended period time, it helps to show that you make a substantial income that you can support them, and that they will not become a 'public charge' (immigration term)

so i figured i'd send that along, even though it's a short time they will be here. thought it couldn't hurt to send that stuff, along with my passport copy....proving i'm a citizen of the U.S. it's not necessary, but i think it can't hurt!

most european countries have an agreement with the U.S. that special visas aren't necessary for vacations. but majority of central & south american countries require visas....as well as nations in africa and some in Asia. europe is lucky!!!!
