We often go to the dog park behind Coindre Hall in Huntington. Here's a pic:

Dogs are also allowed at the West Hills Park (Melville), but I've never been there (Coindre Hall is closer to me.)

I do believe there are 5 parks in Nassau that allow dogs. I just don't know which ones.

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

Directions from Huntington Village:
-Take Wall St. north (turns into West Shore Rd.)
-Follow all the way, you'll come up Gold Star Batallion Beach, continue around the curve (the road now turns into Browns rd.)
-Coindre Hall is #101 (1st right)
-Just pull into the parking lot behind the mansion.

Here's a pic of the Mansion/Dog Park in the winter:

We love it there!!!!

And snow doesn't stop anyone!

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

tammy, do you mean Leptospirosis? (our dogs have been vaccinated for it.)

Samanthas Mom Posted:

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

thats it jenny
dogs w/out shots should not go
plus many people who bring there dogs there do not vaccinate or take care of their dogs

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

Our vet suggested us having them vaccinated b/c racoons carry it around here and he had seen a number of dogs die as a result.

When we first got Ellie, as a puppy she wasn't allowed out to play (only to go to the bathroom) until she had the vaccination, which I think they can get at 4 months.

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

Is there a special vaccination for this or do they do this on the yearly visit where they take blood and do the shots?

Benji can't be like those doggies all loose like that. He may go a little cooko trying to attack the dogs. He is a small fella but he acts like a beast! Leash is just fine for him.

Where did you find that list? I have been searching all over the place and haven't found anything except for Central Park and Montauk in the winter. Thanks!

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

Dogpark.com NY state listings

Coindre Hall is an Off Leash dog park. If you're going to bring your pooch, best make sure the dog is socialized and has good doggy 'ettiquette'. If your dog has a tendency to charge other dogs immediately, you may want to rethink the offleash dog park.

As for the lepto vaccine, ask your vet about it. Do you keep vaccination records on your dog? It may state whether he had it or not.

Re: Beaches or Parks that allow dogs

I have all the reciepts and certs from the vet since we got him. His latest visit was in October for his physical. I will check tonight.

FH calls our dog 'Ghetto Puppy' b/c he is okay around other dogs, when he is leashed and able to greet them, but once he is in the car or walks inside the house, he gets all angry and tries to go back outside to attack the dog! It's really funny. I will talk to FH and see what he says. He walks him more than I do. Thanks for warning me Jenny.
