Becky I wanted to fill you in on the new cocktail room. I know you are out of town so I thought I would let you know that it looks beautiful. The ceiling is perfect. Here is the one catch- Denise (event coordinator) told me that after the cocktail hour the guests are brought into the main reception room. The cocktail room is set up with the buffet tables are to the sides of the room, the smaller cocktail tables are around for guests to eat. The table clothes ARE DIFFERENT than in the main room, beautiful but different. Anyway she tells me that they clean up the room, but leave all of the tables and chair and then OPEN UP the wall. Now your guests have access to bar#2 and you have a bunch of empty buffet tables (clean, but empty) to the sides and some small cocktail tables/chairs. And the stuff does not match the main room. Honestly she said that they open it up all the time and guests love to chat at the small tables in between courses and have the 'lounge' area. I honestly think it looks mismatched and will deter people from dancing since they can 'sit and chat' in another part of the room. Also, we would need to decorate the cocktail hour room much more now since it will beopened and viewed for the entire party.Dennis is not happy about the fact that I hate this whole set-up. I jus twanted you to know about this and consider it next time you come up. I had NO idea that they normally do this. After thinking about it over and over, stressing and talking with a few people I am telling them to keep it closed for my party. Just giving you a heads up.

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
I'm getting married there too next month and I'm not crazy about that either. I definately think that my guests will wind up sitting in there to get away from the 'loud' music. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants that wall up.

Lori- I am so happy to meet someone else getting married there. I cannot wait to hear your review. What is on your menu? I am going for a tasting next month. Did you tell Denise to keep the wall closed?

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
Im getting married there in October. I asked Denise to keep it closed as well and I don't think she liked that I asked for that.
I don't care...I don't like the idea of my guests 'disappearing' into a separate room.
I'm with you guys...the wall is closed!

I haven't done the menu yet, I only have a little over a month, 8/24. No, I didn't tell her about the wall thing yet. I wasn't crazy about the idea at all, my mother thinks I crazy but it does bother me. I will definately post a review of everything when I return from my honeymoon.

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
I am SOOO glad that others feel this way. I was shocked when she suggested opening it. I mean it does NOT match! Plus a lounge is an area with couches, not cocktail tables that everyone just ate on and empty 8-12' tables on the side.

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
I didn't even think of the rooms not matching! I was just concerned that the main room was going to look empty. How many guest are you having? Looks like my list is going to be around 125-135.

I have the same amount. I think that people will be sitting instead of dancing and away from the main party. Plus I am sorry but those large empty tables just plain look bad. people will be waiting for something to be brought out on them. Denise is going to tell you that you will lose the light from the other room if the wall is kept closed. My wedding is Nov. anyway so it will be dark anyway. And then I need to pay for real centerpieces for all of those tables too. What is on your menu?

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
I made an appointment to speak with her since I wanted to try to get some different fish served at the wedding. Sea Bass is becoming endangered. They offered me swordfish, trout, halibut, snapper or Mahi Mahi. We are going to try swordfish w/salsa sauce. Let me know how your meeting goes.

Lori, give us a review after your wedding and let us know how everything turned out.
I'm going to call next week and book an apt. with Denise for our tasting and to go over things like our cake and ice sculptures.
Have you guys decided on a cake yet?

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
The Hamlet Windwatch is in Hauppauge. There is also a Commack and a new one in Plainview.
-My cake will be devil's food w/choclate peanut butter filling and Italian Merguenie (like buttercream) filling.

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
Hey Michelle, I just saw this thread. I actually knew when I booked it that they would open up the wall and , I guess I am in the minority, but I like it. My only concern is HOW they open it and if it looks too much like that gym wall that would be opened from time to time in high school. I like the L-shape room and that there will be plenty of room for my guests to spread out. The second bar is a must becuase I hate having to stand on line and I have a bunch of guests who I know will mill around teh bar and wont have room to do that at the one near the DJ! I also like that there is access to the outside throughout the reception.
But I haven't seen it all set up. The last time I went, they had finished the carpet, ceiling, etc, but the cocktail tables weren't set up. Did it really look that mismatched? Who is getting married there first becuase now I feel like I need opinions from people who had events there with the wall opened and with it closed! Did Denise give you the impression that no one has had the wall closed yet?

Becky -
I got the impression that she didn't recommend the wall being closed....but I agree...how are they going to open the wall w/o making it look like those gym walls?
I agree with the second bar being open...but I don't like the idea of the mismatched linens. BUT, if you have smoking guests...it is easy access for them to get outside (which is better than walking across the dance floor to get out)
I think Lori is going first so she will have to fill us in!

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
I probably should have read this thread more carefully before responding! I didn't see that Lori is up next month. I will be looking forward to that review. Plus, I booked Laurie Studio also, so now I an excited to hear about the pics they take there, too! I just love the Hamlet and I can't imagine that it can look anything less than spectacular, but I am glad to have all of you to give me a heads up, especially becuase you are all up way before me!

Re: becky- about Hamlet Windwatch
I am not a person who cares to make smoking easy for anyone so my guests will just have to figure out where to go themselves Denise said that everyone LOVES the room open. I totally disagree. It is just like having an extra area for people to sit in and gives them a place not to be a part of the party. If you have 200 guests I guess you would like the space though. The linens do not match. Also, make sure that you decorate those long empty buffet tables somehow. Let me know how everything goes Lor.
