My mom went yesterday to start getting me my place settings and they told her that she could only purchase 1 setting and that they wouldn't have any more for another 2 weeks...i don't get this? Should they have offered to have it shipped from another store so she could come back and pick it up? I got rid of fortunoff because it was a pain in the a$$ I am hoping BBB doesn't become one too!

Hummmm that doesn't seem right. Can she contact another store and have them ship it to that location? Maybe she can order it online as well. They really should have given her more options. If I were her, I would go back and speak with someone else.

Re: Bed Bath and Beyond....
was the issue that she only was willing to pick it up in person? i had people order me multiple pieces but everything was shipped to me from the warehouse in NJ because the store didn't carry stock in-house. maybe that was all they had for her to pick up and not order?

Not to scare you but I keep hearing that BBB are now going through what Fortunoff was going through a few onths ago. They are trying to keep stock low so that they show less losses since they're in a financial bind. That being said, they shoudl still order it for you. Have your mom go to another store or even go online and order it... that shouldn't be a problem! I think it's the economy right now, no matter who you'd be registered with, things would be screwy!

Re: Bed Bath and Beyond....
usually they would look up and see what other stores have it in stock. They did that for us when our everyday plates were discontinued. I'm sure other stores have it, and they have so many locations. We didn't register for fine china, so i'm not sure if that works differently. I would just call and ask them.

That's what I'm saying. I said maybe Westbury has it but that isn't convenient for her, she doesn't drive and my father is 76 and not in the best of health so the Oceanside one is most convenient for them. They offered to order it online but she isn't comfortable with that so she said maybe I should call and speak to them, I would think that they would have offered to have it shipped from another store to their store for her no??

I know I heard this too and I am pretending that I didn't hear it! I left Fortunoff for the same reason and if my BBB registry starts to show backordered items I am going to freak out, I know my shower is in July I don't want to have to figure out what to do!

1. I dont think BBB is going bankrupt, they have been doing better than every and I think it's just a rumor.
2. China works differently than other items in that most locations don't keep much stock in the store. Maybe 1-2 place settings, which is why your mom was able to buy 1 and had to wait a little for another to come in. The standard procedure for ordering China from BBB is to order it and have it shipped from their warehouse in NJ. I'm pretty sure this involves having it shipped to you directly, not to the store. It sounds like that would be more convenient than shipping it to the store and then picking it up -- is it an issue of shipping charges? maybe they can waive them?
3. If they offered to order it online it's probably because they dont have the China in the store but it's still available. Macy's sells our bedding online but didn't have it in the store because they sell about 1000 different versions and dont have room to carry stock in everything. Doesn't mean they are going out of business, it just has to be ordered.

Yea I agree with you, they should have offered to ship it to her from another store- I bought curtains there and they had them sent right to me because they didnt have them in stock & they didnt charge me any shipping for it.

I think I am going to give them a call and see what is up. I know my mother doesn't want it shipped to me, it is her own preference not to sure why and she doesn't feel comfortable having them shipped to her house! lol I am going to have to work this one out.

I saw that article.. Linens and Things are filing bankruptcy, but Bed Bath and Beyond isn't there yet, just in financial trouble. Sales in the stores are low and their stock (I mean stock market stock) is not trading well. They're trying to do anything possible not to get where Linens and Things is .. such as carrying less stock in the stores.

I was registered in both Fortunoff and Bed Bath and Beyond, and althought I had some drama with stuff not being in stock, it all worked out in the end. I wouldn't do anything (as far as changing stores). Just try and watch you're registry and you should be okay!
