Do you have the entire bedding set for your baby's crib? I want to register for a set, but I heard that the bumper and even a quilted blanket is dangerous. Should I just buy the dust ruffle and sheets?

Re: Bedding for Baby
Nina, I bought the entire bedding set - can't wait for the crib to come to set it up!
I will use the bumpers but only because they tie top and bottom and the ties are long enough to tie securely. But as soon as baby is standing -- or rolling -- they are out of there.
As far as the matching blanket, it is a waste I guess because you can't use it, so it'll just look nice sitting in the crib for the first two months while baby is in the bassinette. Then it will just be on when baby's not in the crib, I guess.
I just really wanted the whole 'look and feel' even though you are right that all you need is the dust ruffle and sheets.
I think it's all a matter of opinion - I'm sure the Moms on here have great advice on the crib set!

I can see why the quilt is not safe, but why is the bumper not safe? Is it still related to SIDS, or suffocation?

Re: Bedding for Baby
That's what I read -- especially if they can pull them off. Mostly though, I think most people say they are just a waste of money.
If you are shopping, have you looked at the Baby Bargains book? EXCELLENT advice and information - I highly recommend it!

I bought the whole bedding set. I had the bumper in Emmas crib until she could roll over. I also use the quilt as a place for her to lay on on the floor or over me when I get tired. I would never cover her with it cause its too heavy. The whole package isnt necessary but Im using ALL of it to get my $'s worth.

Re: Bedding for Baby
I just bought the entire crib set the other day - and Paul is almost 10 months old! I got the 4 piece set - sheet, dust ruffle, comforter and bumper. The bumper will probably never get used, but they don't sell bedding in separates, so it was an unavoidable expense, I guess.
You guys might think that I'm crazy, but I have always put Paul to bed with a light blanket. So, I think I might actually use the comforter for him, once he's in his crib. We'll see...

We never bought the set. I got most of the needed bits and pieces at my shower. But I ended up needing the bumper which you cant buy seperatley. I got it on ebay. I bought it after Geno was rolling because he kept getting his hands stuck in the railing in the midde of the night and he would wake up in a panic screaming. We always gave him a light blanket to sleep w/ as well.

Re: Bedding for Baby
A close fam friend was going to buy the set but felt it was madea bit too shabby. She is very talented and made the patchwork quilt, bumber, headboard bumper and matching valance herself!!
I bought her the John Lennon crib sheets which she used as material...and we chose a whoite material with multi colored polka dots...and anopther swatch of a creamy yellow material for her to incorporate into the patchwork.
Julianne is not in hercrib yet- but she keeps inching up in the bassinet until her head touches the top...so she may b in ther soon.
aAs long s the bumpers are securly attached and the baby cannot get to the ties- then u r safe- until they can pull up on them.
The baby bargains book is GREAT!!! (they also wrote one for brides -which I used as well)
