I've been there, its OK, not that great. Its a very dressed down place and the typical neighborhood bar. There is a basement of tables and an outside plus a bar inside, they also serve food. They have many many great beers and a large selection

Thanks ladies.
I'm going out there tomorrow for a friends birthday. He lives in Manhattan and wants to go to Astoria for his birthday, guess he just wanted something different. Thanks for the input.

There are so many nicer bars in Astoria to go to, if you guys dont want to go to the Beer Garden, try Cavo, which is really nice, Caprice, Central, Island, Oneiro, and many trendy restaurants with bars and music

totally awesome place but get there early so you can grab a bench. Really laid back, pretty good service and um, you can drink and smoke outside at picnic tables, what more could you want??

Beer Garden is fun. The back yard is really big. It's great on a nice day to just chill out. I've seen people set up bday parties on the picnic tables...it's fun! I want to go now!

Re: Beer Garden in Astoria
it's a fun casual place to chill and drink German beer and eat Polish kielbasas (sausages)!!!
if u want a more upscale garden/outdoor place, check out Cavo's, also in Astoria
have fun!!

Re: Beer Garden in Astoria
love that place, its good to kick back and hangout with friends. The pitches are not too expensive. come early so you can beat the lines, get a good seat. The food is like bbq style, burgers, sausages, fries. It gets crowded and a little loud but its still super fun. Oh a little tip, when getting drinks the ladies usually get served first.

it really is like that. Its fun, its tons of benches and everyone is just drinking, eating and hanging out. If you're with a good crowd you'll have alot of fun. I am guessing that is the atmosphere he is looking for so it will be great. If he wants something different then try Island in astoria but im guessing if he wants the beer garden then Island, which is a club/lounge type place isn't what hes looking for.

Yeah I think since he lives in Mahatten and does the lounge thing a lot, he wanted something more chill, laidback where we could all just eat drink and hang out. I like hearing all these good things, I'm pumped now. Though I'll definitly keep Island in mind just incase, thanks!

ONLy thing is that if you're going to the beer garden im sure everyone will dress very casual and i suggest that, i wouldn't go dressed up over there and Island thinks they're a big city club and very strict about dress codes and even just strict in general, the lines are huge there , its REAL nice inside though, its all white and limestone walls and stuff but maybe if you can bring a change of clothes just in case.
BUT like you said he wants laid back so i say just go to the beer garden and have fun and if you have a big group it will be great. Sometimes i prefer that depending on my mood. You'll be in comfortable clothes, actually have a spot to sit, just drink and eat, actually get to have conversations with the people you're with lol. It gets real packed so very lively, plus you're outside and the weather is beautiful today
