we got a posterboard and drew the tables and then cut out the guests names on paper so we could easily move the names around to different tables.
my biggest advice is not to get crazy trying to make each table have an even number. we did that at first and it was impossible. We finally just put ppl where they made sense. Some tables had 8 people, some had 9, 10, 11 or 12....but thats how it worked out the best.
good luck!

Re: Best approach for seating charts
not sure if this is an option for you, but we're going to have FH's parents create the seating chart for his family, my mom will be creating the one for my family, and FH and I will be doing our friends only

Re: Best approach for seating charts
I think I'll make a cut out of each persons name..seems easier that way... I'm a visual hands on person!

Re: Best approach for seating charts
Do you mean for planning them or for telling people where to sit (instead of escort cards)?
As far as planning goes, I went with a manilla folder and little tiny bookmark post-its.
Once I knew who was going at each table, planning the arrangement wasn't really difficult. Don't forget to get the RH's table chart from your BM since you want to make sure they know how many chairs to put where, so it's best to match their known table schematic.

Re: Best approach for seating charts
not to hurt anyone's feelings but I have no idea how it was possible for some ppl to cut and make boards
I downloaded a software and had my seating chart in no time I was able to draw tables, set ppl per table and just drag and drop ppl into whatever table this also helped me keep track of the yes RSVPs
ETA: forgot to add that these softwares allow u to import ur Excel guest list into there so its super easy

Re: Best approach for seating charts
I used the RSVP cards and grouped them into tables. So I put all the RSVP's for my BP into two groups (i.e. two tables) etc.

Well when I finished grouping everything, I put a post-it note on them with the table number and '+ XYZ' for whoever didn't send in an rsvp.

Re: Best approach for seating charts
LOL I laugh because I went old school and drew a bunch of circles on a poster board in the floor layout of th eroom and wrote the names in pencil until i was happy with the layout.
However, i think doing it on the computer may be easier instead of erasing the names constantly. it was just easier for me to see the layout on a whole page in front of me

That's what I did! It seemed like the easiest way and it was

I would love pics of that. this is what I want to do, but I KNOW I'll end up spending more time making that than actually figuring out who sits where!!!

Re: Best approach for seating charts
I just used an excel spreadsheet - i found it to be so easy bc i could drag and drop and color code.
