best cars in the snow

i am looking to trade in my saturn sc2..

i want a car that handles well in the snow, but is not too expensive

any suggestions?

my parents live upstate where subarus are abound... we have a forester and bought it in hopes that it will do right by us in the snow, we shall see this winter...

I know Audi's are supposed to be great in the snow.. and they are very reliable all around. I think if you buy them pre-owned they are pretty cheap.

I am in the process of looking into buying my FW a Jeep Liberty. I took one today for a test drive. Not bad.

You can get a base model with 4x4 capability for under 25k.

If you do not want an SUV, your best bet is an AWD car.

You cannot go wrong with a Subaru. Good cars and EXCELLENT in all weather conditions.

Of course, you can't go wrong with a Jeep either. ;)

Subaru, Volvo, Audi

My DH has an Audi and it kick a$$ in the snow. In a few years I will take his Audi and we'll buy a truck because the car I have right now is pretty crappy in the snow.

I LOVE MY SUBARU.....i live in maine and we get TONS of snow and i have no problem, the forester is the best, just get the right tires.....if there is any questions about the car just ask........it is also my 3rd one and i really love them

I have an Audi with Quattro AWD and it is the BEST in the snow. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I have a Toyota Highlander with the AWD and it is excellent in the snow. DH actually tried to get it to spin out and it wouldn't do it.

so GLAD to hear such positives reviews of the Subaru - we recently bought a forrester. its the greatest car!! can't wait till the first snow to test it out.

basically anything with all wheel drive, traction control, or 4 wheel drive will do the best. While I am not sure on all the options available on the camry, all the cars you listed are front wheel drive and will do ok, but not terrific.

Subaru has all wheel drive not 4 wheel drive. The difference being that in 4 wheel drive, there is power spinning the 4 wheels at the same time. With all wheel drive, the car will transfer power from the wheels that don't have traction - that are slipping - to ones that do.

I have to put my vote in for the VW Jetta. It is peppy, nice (I have the leather & heated seats) and handles well in the snow. I definitely give it 2 thumbs up.
