I figured since i'm spending so much on the wedding i might as well use a credit card that gives me something back
(don't worry, i dont have any cc debt and FH pays off the balance every month)
thoughts?

I have American Express Jetblue card. For every two hundred dollars you spend you get 1 point. You need 100 points to get a free round trip flight.

I like Chase Freedom
The Chase Freedom card lets you earn 3 percent cash back for every dollar you spend on eligible transactions at gas stations, grocery stores, and quick service restaurants (such as pizza, hamburgers, tacos, sandwich shops, coffee houses, and more) with a 1 percent cash back offering for purchases made everywhere else. Once you accumulate $50 in rewards, you can redeem for your $50 check. Take time to build up a pool of rewards and watch your earnings grow, with $200 in rewards letting you redeem for $250 cash back.
I let it grow to that $200 mark and get $250 back in cash....its pretty great.

I love my American Express card - the pay with points program is amazing!
ETA: be warned though - most catering halls (the biggest expense) don't accept credit cards.

I used my Bank of america card points to get myself a waffle maker that I have been wanting lol Woo hoo
I think my mom has a Discover card, and she says the rewards are great, but most places don't take Discover, so you are SOL there :(

Re: best credit cards for rewards?
I use my discover card, which is tricky b/c not eveyone accepts it, but I find many places do. They ususally have a high intrest rate, but we pay off the bill so we don't get charged.
I get 1% cash back on all purchases and 5% back on eligible purchase which change every 3 months, such as gas, groceries, home furnishing, travel, etc. You redeem the cash in multiples of $20 (when ever you want) either straight to you via check or towards paying off your bill. You can also increase the cash you get back by redeeming it for a gift certificate through a partner. For example, if we are going to the olive garden for dinner in a few weeks I can use $20 to get a $40 gift card to use so i'm doubling the rewards. They have tons of partners including Macys and jewelry stores and travel that we can redeem towards wedding stuff too. Their partners do sometimes change and each partner offers a different % matching, some will give $25 gift card for $20 where as others double so you have to plan wisely.
They also offer discounts to stores by shopping through the discover website and they are amazing if you have to dispute a purchase (only done once, but they were nice, easy to work with, and fast). They are even good when my magnetic strip stopped working after walking in a magnetic room at work and even when my card got stolen. Sorry, had this card forever and i'm not the most careful person.
