Our best man is a professional musician and a bit of a free spirit (aka has no responsibilities in his life but himself). He plays a lot of gigs in Pennsylvania, upstate NY, and Ohio with a band that impersonates another very famous former band and works most weekends. So the thought occurs to me the other day does he realize that he has to be here for the rehearsal dinner, etc. a few days before the wedding? You would think he would but I had to make sure. So I have FH call him today as we finalized our tux selection so the BM would know where to go. Would you believe he had a gig booked in Pennsylvania the day before our wedding???? To make it worse we are getting married in the morning the next day. I told FH that the next time he gets together with him he needs to make it abuntantly clear what he is expected to do and not do. As it is we are planning a brunch rehearsal on Sunday because our minister is not available for a rehearsal on Saturday.
Now I know we are all brides and are experts on this stuff but wouldn't even the most clueless BM/MOH realize they have to be around (at least in the same state) a day before the wedding? DUH!

I can't believe that he was planning on being in a different state!!! But then again he is a man and they don't get it like woman do-that is why even a clueless BM would know she had to be in the same state but honestly it doesn't shock me for a guy-I'm so mean!!

don't feel bad, our bm(fh brother) was going to go to boston for a baseball game the day before our wedding. fsil told him he shouldn't since its your brother's wedding the next day. some men just don't think. good think we keep them in check

Men exactly. I just asked my FH the other day if his BM knew he had to take off a few days before the wedding for rehearsals and stuff. He said, well I guess he does. Guessing doesn't count. Men just don't understand.

some people are just ridiculous fh's neice is one of our jr bm and her mom makes her last appt to pick up the dress the day of my rehersal my rehersal is 6pm in Brookville/Oyster Bay and she has appt to pick up the dress at 4pm in Melville and what if its busy there or theres a problem she will be late thats so annoying

I could understand if he was one out of several ushers and had to fly in when I booked a rehearsal dinner a week before. Don't most people either have a rehearsal or a dinner or both? Even my 'very annoying/immature for 31' brother knows this. He's a very unreliable person but EVEN he knows the expectations. I mean we are only having a MOH and BM
Like I said in my original post he's a musician but in a Beatles cover band. He kept telling me he hopes his agent doesn't get mad at him because the back-up 'Paul McCartney' might not be able to do it.
Then he has the nerve to ask if my MOH is single... no, I'm 34 and the last of all of my friends, you missed the boat on that one too.
I don't care if they have to get the REAL Sir Paul McCartney. DUH, you are a best man, moron!

Ahh musicians. MY FH is in a band that plays a ton and most of the GM are in the band...I have been trying to keep on them and wouldn't let them book any gigs the month of our wedding until we had everything set. I agree, let your FH try to deal with it.
