I am going to attempt to create a few projects beginning with cd labels and I would like to purchase a printer today for this purpose. Please tell me what you use and your thoughts on it. Laser vs. Inkjet...

Re: Best printer for diy projects?
i'd say get a laser.. i just brought one. because i found some papers i wanted to use woud not hold the inkjet ink.. i got a samsung clp600.. from staples right now it's on sale from 399 to 199 with a 200 rebate..
if u are going to use u'r printer a lot (i do printing as a side hustle.) i'd say invest in it.. if this is something u'r not going to be using a lot it may be easier to just hire someone to do it..

Re: Best printer for diy projects?
depends on if you are doing colored projects or don't mind the black and white/grayscale... for color - I have an HP photoprinter for my projects and a Lexmark laser printer for all my other stuff...

Re: Best printer for diy projects?
I have an epson stylus photo rx580, it prints beautiful photos, have used it for all of my DIY's , it has tons of options and one of them is print directly on CD's!!!!!!!!!!!! I made favors for my RD that way. Printing on CD's is better IMO because labels can get caught in a player, peel after time and are hard to center. Also I was going to use a label on my CD's (took me 2 days to figure out how to line it up to print ) and it didn't cover the whole CD, so you could see blue.
Even if you don't print directly on the CD I think it is a great printer.

I'd say get a laser printer but they can be costly. The canon pixma photo printers are inexpensive & produce very high quality.
go to www.buy.com or www.provantage.com ...these sites are usually cheaper than the staples, office max, etc. If you see a rebate on staples etc. just print it out & buy the printer cheaper elsewhere & send in the rebate anyway.

Re: Best printer for diy projects?
can u do that? i think that only works if it's a manufacturers rebate and not a store rebate..
i think the poster wo mentioned the printer that prints on cds.. that's a fabulous idea!! especially if u'r gonna buy one anyway ad u need one that prints on cds.. nothing worse than getting a cd caught in a cd player cause of the label...
oh and i do have to cosign on the lasers being costly.. if u'r not gonna use it frequently it's not worth it really..

yep, u have to have a manufacture coupon if u are going to get it cheaper from another site.
As far as printing directly on cd's....if u have a computer that has light scribe www.lightscribe.com it puts a laser image directly onto the cd. You can also buy a light scribe drive but it may be a little costly. But it is definetly better quality than printing cd labels & then sticking them on the cd.

for those of you who printed their own invites, programs, menus, and such...did you have any problems with paper misfeeding or ink smudging or any other problems you may have encountered during the process?
