Better to use house vendors?

Better to use house vendors?

How many people feel its better to use a house vendor,(or recommended vendor) for say DJ and Photography, since they are more likely to know the hall, better places to do what they have to do?

Or do you think it doesn't matter, and you would go with anyone you felt most comfy?

Re: Better to use house vendors?

i was going to go with a house vendor for photography...they were wonderful and I loved their pictures but they were extremely pricey! In the end I wound up going with a non-house vendor who is very familiar with my hall and is like a quarter of the price (I'm not good with math but that sounds about right..)..I'm still looking into DJ's but unless I find someone else that really blows me away I'm going to be going with a house vendor for that.

I don't think it really matters, but I did book two house vendors b/c we liked them and we would get their plates for half price. Gotta save wherever you can!

Our BM told us that their house vendors will tell the bride and groom NOT to pay for dinners for them - they'll eat and fill up at the cocktail hour - a perk that you may or may not have if you hire a non-house vendor.

I have heard of several vendors that will say not to pay for their plates - they'll voluntarily eat at the CH. I would never ASK a vendor to do that, though - if they offer, that's something else!

If comfort level of the vendor knowing the hall is important to you and you're interested in a non-recommended house vendor ask how often they shoot or play at your hall.

Our Photo/Video was not a hall recommended vendor, but they knew the grounds and the hall inside and out. They do many many weddings there.

Sometimes being a hall recommended vendor doesn't mean much. Some halls have a vendor preferred program others give discounts on meals for vendors. It's really a matter of choice. HTH!

I go with what I think is best.

Some of the house vendors for photography that the hall gave us were cheesy and 80's ish, so I'd rather go with a non house, and for me its worth it to pay for their meals if I know their work is better.

But most definitely if the work is good or they are what you are looking for, definitely more perks in a house vendor JMO

My Photographer is a house vendor and my videographer isn't. I don't think it matters either way. Just make sure when you do choose one house or not that they have shot their before. I would ask them to show you pics or clips from the hall also. Thats what I did. Hope this helps
