Church starts at 2:30 and our cocktail hour starts at 6:30. We are having a full mass which will end around 3:30. The photographer said by the time we do the receiving line and he's doing all the family pics at church it will be 4:30 by the time we leave. That gives us 2 hours to take more pics and travel 40 minutes to the hall. You want to make sure you allow ample time for pics, but your photographer should be able to tell you what's best.

I have about 3 - 4hrs between my ceremony and reception. I am going to have FH family go to my housee, where they will be refreshments. And my family to my uncle and sisters house.

Honestly, please don't flame me for this, its just my opinion...

For the non-out-of-town guests, if you don't provide something, they may not go to the ceremony b/c its hard to get dressed up, then sit around for 2-3 hours... If you didn't mind people not going to the chuch, that would be different. Again, JMO in my experiences as a guest...

no no I appreciate the honesty..I know that people won't go to the church if there is too much time, that is why I am trying to figure something out, my parents aren't from NY so it isn't like they can host soemthing...should FH's parents step up for that? I want people to go to the church!

I was just going to post about this!
I have a lot of OT guests also that can check in to the hotel, but wht about the ones that aren't staying? Are you going to include soemthing for them to do? I am having the reception in a hotel that has a bar, so I tink that I may ask them to maybe do drink specials..my cermony will end at 4pm and my cocktail hour starts at 7pm, I just don't want my guests standing around not knowing what to do...I guess if they are that concerned they probably won't come to the church...any suggestions about what to do for/with them?

Good point, but I think it depends on your guests. We had 75% oot guest and only 4 didn't come to our ceremony, we had a gap of 3 1/2 hours.
That being said...I think only you know best your guest list and what they might do!

I have 4 hrs... I am NOT a happy camper about it...

The reason is because I am getting married in a RC Church on a Sat. The latest 'wedding' mass is at 2:30 pm. My cocktail hour starts at 7:30 pm!

Everyone I spoke to said that people will find something to do in between and breaks are normal in between a RC Church ceremony and Hall receptions...

I am sure that the OOTs will be at the hotel getting ready for the more 'formal' wedding reception so maybe it will be a blessing in disguise.... we will see...

I posted about this a week ago because I my ceremony is at 2:30 and the reception is at 7. I am so not happy about that big gap in time. I have alot of family coming from Westchester and the older crew is not going to want to hang out at a bar. I wish the church had later masses. I have to brainstorm!

The time does go by very quickly. Take that time to enjoy your new husband

Re: Between ceremony and reception

We are doing everything pretty close in time to eliminate the long periods of time inbetween for people. We are doing a 4pm wedding and then cocktails starting at 5pm and dinner starting between 6-630 pm. this way here it allows for the kids to be there for a while to enjoy themselves at the reception as well as some of the older guests
