BEWARE, MY COUSIN WAS SO EXCITED SHE SAVED $350. ON A MAGGIE SOTTERIO BUYING HER DRESS ONLINE, SHE JUST HAD ALTERATIONS DONE IT COST HER-$475.00 AND ALOT OF GREIF.. SHE IS SO SORRY SHE BOUGHT IT ONLINE, SHE ORDERED AT SZ 12 AND A SZ 16 CAME, THEY SAID IT RAN SMALL, WELL THEY WOULD NOT TAKE IT BACK, NO RETURN POLICY..... SHE BOUGHT HER DRESS ONLINE-1ST MISTAKE!!! AND THE STORY GOES, BUY YOUR DRESS AT A REPUTABLE STORE..WITH ALTS DONE ON PREMISES. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU BUY YOUR BRIDAL DRESS YOU GET A CAP ON ALTERATIONS... I PURCHASED MY DRESS IN BRIDAL SUITE OF BAYSHORE AND MY ALTS WERE CAPPED AT $150.00, SO I KNOW NO MATTER WHAT $150.00 WILL BE MY MAX AND B.SUITE OF BAYSHORE IS VERY REPUTABLE, THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS, AND THEY WAY THEY PULLED THRU AFTER THE FIRE 6MTHS AGO IS AMAZING... SO THINK TWICE ABOUT SAVING A BUCK ITS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE--- BRIDES HELPING BRIDES

Re: BEWARE: ALTERATIONS--
thanks for the tips.
I went 3 weeks ago to look at dresses and the first thing i asked is about alterations.
I didnt see anything I liked but I am going again March 22 to look at more dresses at 2 other places and its a great tip to keep in the back of my head.
thanks

Re: BEWARE: ALTERATIONS--
another tip:
often the bustle isn't included in the alterations cap. My bustle cost another $100+

Re: BEWARE: ALTERATIONS--
That's terrible what happened from your friend but I wouldn't necessarily write off buying online. I bought my dress online. It was a $5000 Reem Acra that I got for $2500. The place had a return policy (Full refund if returned within 3 days, minus $35 handling to restock) and I had no problems whatsoever with alterations. I'd recommend this option to ANYONE who wants to save on a high end dress.
I also ordered all the bridesmaid's dresses online and again, a wonderful experience and A LOT less hassle than the bridal salons I went to. Several girls here and on other wedding boards have done the same: www.netbride.com
My alterations were done by Bridal Suite of Manhattan. They did my girls too. So even though, I ordered online, I was still fussed over, as every bride deserves. And I paid $400. But that's not much higher than what Kleinfelds wanted, and the dress was EXTREMELY complicated.
If she ordered a size 12 and a 16 came, I'd say that LEGALLY, she should have been able to return it because it wasn't 'AS ORDERED'?
In any event, the best thing to do before ordering anything online is to check the background of the company first. Know the return policy, if one exists. I know several brides that ordered from my company (bridepower.com) and were very happy with the experience. So not all online services are bad.

Re: BEWARE: ALTERATIONS--
I'm sorry that your cousin had such a bad experience. I bought my dress off Bridesave.com at a REALLY good price. I used the size charts provided on the website, and the dress came exactly as I would have expected. I then took it to a local tailor who did all of the alterations for $150. I had a great experience with this and would recommend it, especially if you have a good tailor who you trust...
