Beware George Washington Bridge.

Beware George Washington Bridge.

Take note George Washington Bridge .......

A man threatening to jump off the George Washington Bridge closed the upper deck of the bridge Friday morning, as New York City Police and other law enforcement officials contained the scene in an effort to talk the man off the span.

The identity of the man is not known at this time.

The lower deck of the bridge has remained open Friday.

But the standoff has caused a nightmare traffic jam for morning rush-hour commuters who use the bridge to travel between New York and New Jersey with lines of cars and trucks at a standstill, the snarl stretching back miles on the New Jersey Turnpike, Cross Bronx Expressway and other arterials that feed the bridge.

New York City Police said they could provide no other details on the standoff.

geez guy-- give the commuters a break!

if you are going to off yourself-- do it at like 1 or 2 pm... or better yet-- in the middle of the night. no one is ever driving on the bridge then!

i apologize in advance for my sick sense of humor

seriously, the first thing i thought of is the fact that people try to and actually DO jump off of that bridge (as well as all the area bridges) ALL the time. i have a few friends who are fire fighters and they do fire rescue in the boats- and they have told me that they are CONSTANTLY recovering bodies of people who have jumped-- that very few of them make it to the news-- that it's quite common- like, on average, once a week... sometimes more one week and less the next. there are a lot of people out there who are depressed i guess

edited: i am glad they got him down tho- that guys needs to be on meds- and he needs help on top of that apparently.
