Beware of the Tag Cutting Bridal Shops!!!!!

While I found this practice annoying, I (thought) I understood why they did it...to preserve their business in the advent of online sales. Boy, I was WRONG.

Long story short... I tried on a dress a month ago at a bridal shop that cuts out the tags. I really loved the dress but it was $2050, which was WAY more than I intended to spend on a dress I was going to wear for 5 hours. When I got home I searched and searched for the dress but couldn't find it anywhere. Fast forward to yesterday. Decided to try one last ditch effort to find this dress so I typed 'lace bodice a-line skirt' into google. Lo and behold, it was the 3rd return. Got the info and went to RK Bridal to try it on ... and it was $650.00!!!!!! This is the exact same dress I tried on at that bridal shop. I cannot believe that they would price gouge that much! I am writing a letter to the manufacturer to let them know this.

Just be forewarned - I would not trust any bridal shop that cuts out the tags.

I thought that tag-cutting was illegal? I know I read in a book somewhere about tag cutting and it listed the actual law (I thought?)

I'm glad you found your dress. My place tag cut too.
I have since found ot it was reasonably pirced though.

The designer is Ashley Jordan, who I had never heard of. She doesn't have a website, which is probably why they thought they could get away with marking it up so high.

Glad you got your dress for such a great price!! I've seen this in it's worst form. I fell in love with a gown that the shop was trying to sell me for $1800. Then I found it online on THEIR HIDDEN WEBSITE (under a different name, BTW) on sale as a DISCONTINUED GOWN for $700. They were playing it off to me like they were going to ORDER this gown. Meanwhile, the manufacturer had discontinued it and I found this out myself by calling them myself! They were going to sell me the SAMPLE for $1800 as if it was new. This disgusted me.

Jimmysbride, those are the names of the stores I think should be on LIW. Everyone here is pretty much new at wedding planning and if these businesses are allowed to continue doing what they are, they will go on ripping off other brides. I'm so glad for you that you found out in time.
As for cutting labels, I found that done very often with MOB gowns. In the end I actually bought my gown from such a place, and I shocked myself. It turned out that I really liked the seamstress and felt she would work with me to make some changes on my gown. This was The Elegant Bride in Williston, and I knew from shopping around the price was fair. However, I hated when they look you in the face and say they don't know who makes the dress. You want to call them a liar to their face. It's hard though when it's not your nature to be nasty.
Girls, I think you should keep the names of those places visible on these boards. This is the one place where we can actually help eachother avoid heartache.

LIMom - I definitely agree but it seems like every time something like this gets posted with a name, the thread gets pulled. I did think about it but ultimately I think more brides will benefit from just generally being wary of any place that cuts the tags out than the few brides who would get to read the name of the place I dealt with before it got pulled.

ETA: If anyone wants to know the name of the place, I have no trouble telling them - just FM me.

It's semi-illegal but no-one would inforce the laws( from sister who worked at a bridal suite in bayshore)...

I think its disgusting, ridiculous and would not buy a dress from a store that did that...I went into the stores saying Do you have 'say Mori lee' and if they didnt post the tags they better have shown me the right dresses....

p.s I LOVE LOVE that dress!!!!!!

part of it is illegal... its something like, they can cut out the tag, but they need to have an identifying number on the dress(which alot of them dont have)

Congratulations on a great buy. I went to a place that did that I was very upset about it, but they said they did it to not influence the bride to puchase a speceific designer. NOW I know the real reason.
