Beyond Stupid Etiquette Question

Beyond Stupid Etiquette Question

This is pretty ludicrous, but here it goes.

So I'm doing the bizarre little Venetian theme, and had intended on having little masks popping up all over the place, place card table, cake table, originally in the CPs but not anymore since they're non-floral now, and full size bride and groom masks for the sweetheart table. Not that it's a particularly bizarre theme, just that it's not a Halloween wedding, so a little unusual for Christmas.

My friend's wedding was last night, and she did a Nightmare Before Christmas theme, with Jack and Sally unity candle holders, cake topper, on the seating diagram, etc. So kind of a Halloween in the dead of winter type theme. Her favors? Venetian Masks.

Now we didn't discuss this together at all, and I had absolutely no idea this was her favor until we got to the table and I freaked, in a good way, because I was so excited to get one because I'm obsessed with Venetian masks LOL.

But now I'm kind of like damn, it's going to look like I jacked her idea, when it was my intention all along to incorporate this element into my theme.

I'm sure she won't mind because she's not like that at all, an no one else from her wedding will be at ours. But do you think it's in poor taste now to do the same thing, being that her wedding was first?

Not at all. Maybe she got the idea from you...

I think you should be fine b/c there is still a lot of time to go for your wedding. I would def. talk to her about it and just say exactly what you just told us. Its not like you intentionally stole the idea from her, you really were planning on doing this anyway. Maybe she can even give you tips on where she got her stuff from.

Yes, I am! LOL...who are you, were you there too? That's so funny! If you were, I hope you didn't see my @$$ on the ground with my dress over my head...

Yeah I know she won't mind she's totally not the type that would be like beatch you stole my idea hahaha. I guess it's ok...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all, even though I'm not totally imitating since I had this idea for months now. Just too funny, I guess that's why we're friends all these years, great minds think alike!

I agree. If she isn't someone who will make a big deal of it - go for it. It's what you want deep down and if you don't you might regret it. Like you said you guys are friends so you have simliar taste!

I know how that can feel a little strange but only you will notice and think that you are copying or redoing her idea, plus I am sure she won't mind just mention it to her to see what she says

I would talk to her first and explain you were already going this direction. But if you don't have a lot of overlapping guests and she doesn't care then go for it. Its not like your ripping off her idea.

Re: Beyond Stupid Etiquette Question

if nobody in her wedding is going to yours.. I think you will be fine! besides.. FSIL gave out espresso cups as her favors and we are doing the same thing! I didnt go to her wedding and FH forgot what the favors were because he doesnt pay attention to those things and it has always been my dream to give out the epsresso cups.. well a store went out of business and we got them at like a steal so I jumped on it and then FH tells me that his sis did it! I almost killed him but then I was like, whatever, what can I do now.. cant return them, so that's what everyone is getting.

Next time you speak to her, I would just compliment the Venetian mask idea and say you're doing the same thing, and have been planning it for months.

I don't see the point in asking her if she minds since you didn't steal the idea. Asking her will only make you appear like you are imitating her.

I don't think it should be an issue considering like you said- no one from that wedding will be at yours. Check with her though so she is aware that you are using the same idea.
