B/F question

At our last appointment with the pediatrician she mentioned that I shouldnt eat peanuts or other nuts, to try to prevent Claire from getting peanut allergies. I NEVER heard or read this before and I have eaten nuts....Is this true?

My doctor told me that while I was pregnant, but I never heard of it for b/f.

Wish they would have told me! I have no idea if I had nuts or not, but seems like an easy thing to do to prevent allergies!

I definitely heard of having to avoid nuts during pregnancy to make sure the baby doesn't have nut allergies. I guess it makes scence that you should avoid them while BF as well...

I know I have had some peanuts and other nuts and I will feel so HORRIBLE if she actually gets peanut allergies because of that. I wish I had read about this, there seems to be so little information about breastfeeding rules compared to do/donts for pregnancy....

Re: B/F question

I discovered that I had a nut allergy at 21. I honestly never had a nut prior to that, and even when I have my anphlatic reaction it was because there was nut residue in a smoothie I got at Penn Station.

Long story short the reason I never ate nuts was because my mom never liked them so needless to say she never ate them during her pregnancy with me and well I was a formula baby so she never breastfeed... so...

Now am I an example of someone who since I was never introuduced to them got the allergy??? maybe...
I look at it like how babies who grew up around dogs and cats were less likely to have allergies to them as a child who didn't have them in their household.

I actually no longer have the allergy they think when I had my last misscarriage something changed... who knows if it will come back after this baby....

Also for those who said that there child doesn't have the allergy my little BIL has a tree nut allergy and my MIL never realized it he loves chashews and looking back now he would get a stuffy nose occassionally after eating them as well as other things they ignored but at 13 he went into full anaphlxsis (sp) and almost died from it so sometimes the allergy can take years to get to the level that it would be truely noticeable.

Re: B/F question

We saw a world renown allergist in Manhattan and he said if there is a parent with a certain food allergy chances are the food should be avoided since they baby will have a higher chance of getting the same food allergy if the mother breastfeeds and eats that certain food in LARGE AMOUNTS!
