Big BIG problem

Big BIG problem

I have some issues. Medical issues that have required me to take medications for the past 8 months. Medications that have forced my weight to balloon to astronomical (for me) proportions. I am very unhappy. I don't want to get married looking like this... but it is important to my FH for us to be married this year. I am considering discontinuing my meds so I can lose the weight... but this will probably cause me some serious pain and perhaps other side effects.

I just don't know what to do! I don't even want to go DRESS shopping and my wedding is less than 6 months away.

ETA: Dieting won't help. I eat EXTREMELY healthfully. And I exercise a lot. I mean - at least an hour of cardio 3-4 times a week plus weight training.

I feel your pain...Im on meds that give me ABSOLUTLY no sex drive. Side effects suck. You will be beautiful no matter what...go try on your dresses and see how beautiful you will look.

Talk to your doctor. The doctor may be able to switch your meds or refer you to someone that can help with your weight while on the meds. What good is getting your weight down if you are hurting yourself in the process. Your children don't want mommy to be in pain. I can understand wanting to lose weight before the wedding just make sure you do it safely. You may also want to look into the south beach diet. It gives fast results and is low not no carb. My ffil lost a lot of weight quickly on it but was under the watchful eye of his doctor. Good luck
Eta: I forgot to say no matter what you will look beautiful on your special day

is there any other med that you can be switched on to to help with the weight? I realize you probably know that answer all ready. If there is no possibility of putting off the date due to vendors/family I would say know that your beautiful and special. find a dress your comftable in and you might be suprised how comftable and beautiful you will look.

i'm LIVING your pain. i know EXACTLY how you feel. i don't know what to tell you... because not taking your meds isn't, necessarily, a good thing.

have you been trying to counter the affects? diet and exercising more?

i just saw on good morning america that **if done in a modified way** the adkins diet is actually healthy.

there are dietitians where i work, one of them gave me a 'different' modification of the adkins diet. i can fm it to you on monday... i have it on my work computer

i know i live far, but i can come over and we can exercise together

You're beautiful! Don't stop taking your meds (especially if they're keeping you from having pain and experiencing other negative things).

Go ahead, try some dresses on and you can always get it altered if you lose weight. But don't sweat it!!! You don't need to be skinny to be beautiful on your wedding day!!!!!!

If you do decide to stop taking your meds, BE SURE to speak with your doc about it. Maybe he/she could even change your prescription in order to decrease those side effects!

You'll be okay

No matter what, you are going to look beautiful on your wedding day in your wedding dress, you should not sacrifice your health. (JMO)

Re: Big BIG problem

I have been there... 10 years ago, I got sick and there was only one pill that would help. I was put on that medication for 5 months and experienced HORRIFYING side effects. I gained 40 lbs, lost hair, had edema, and was completely exhausted.... so many side effects that I can't remember even half of them...

I must say, the pill really got rid of my illness... and for that I am eternally grateful. You should definitely ask your dr. if other options are available. But, if you could jeopardize your health, DON'T DO IT!

We all want to look perfect on our big day, but the important thing is REALLY that you are healthy and have a long good life with your FH. Many of us have medical conditions that compromise our appearance. My illness left serious scars that cannot be fixed nor hidden, and permanently reduced my metabolism.... but I'm fine with that... I know I'll be glowing on the big day...

I wonder if it is similar medication... I have lost some hair and gained weird water weight... I have gained 56 lbs... but it looks worse because I am SO DAMNED PUFFY! And I am athletic so I have a LOT of underlying muscle.. I look like a freakin' former linebacker who went on a bender after blowing out his knee...
Plus I have horribly dry skin too.

The doc DID say that we will be weaning me off the medication starting in January and that I should be able to lose the weight and that the other side effects will dissipate... but what if they DON'T???

If they are going to wean you off the meds in Jan. then I would just keep doing what you're doing and you should lose the weight by your wedding. You eat very health, you do cardio 3-4 times a week, and weight train. Muscle weighs more than fat and burns fat faster. I bet that when you start weening off the meds you start slimming down. I'm sure your FH thinks you are gorgeous no matter what and your wedding day isn't going to be any different. Feel better!!

I was on mega doses of accutane for a really catastrophic autoimmune /skin problem in my face... Yeah, I had the dry skin too...
Just try your best to eat healthy, drink lots of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and try your best to do a bit of exercise to keep the blood flowing... that will help in minimizing edema.
2 months after getting off the meds, I began exercising my heart out and lost about 30 lbs over 5 months. The facial scarring is permanent however....

Even if you don't manage to lose it all, it's hardly the end of the world. Many brides (even on this site) endured similar things. Despite that,we're all gorgeous on our big day

We might be in the same boat. We might even be going through the same meds. I know how painful it can be, physically and mentally. I wanted so bad to lose the weight before my wedding. But I am SOOOOO happy I married the love of my life. If you'd like to talk about how hard it is, please FM me.

Re: Big BIG problem

You will be beautiful ~ Don't worry about the weight Your FH will love and marry you no matter what... it is what is on the inside that counts...

if you are that concerned about it I would talk to your doctor ~ maybe they can switch medications around temprorily and help with the weight gain... I would NOT discontinue taking the meds sweetie ~ esprecially if you will be in pain ~ what will be worse on your wedding day you being alittle bit heavier on your big day or you being in extreme pain?

Good Luck & talk to your doctor!

You wil be beautiful no matter what....but I would talk to your doctor. If he can't prescribe something else, maybe there's a way to modify your diet and he can recommend a dietician.

I remember going through a similar issue a few years ago....my medication made me have a bigger appetite and I gained a TON of weight. I'm just starting to lose it now.

I would make an appointment.

Re: Big BIG problem

I am soooo sorry that you are going through this. I had a similar problem in the past, and went over 300lbs. I would talk 2 your doctor, and see if he could steer you in the right direction. Maybe an alternate medication. Please don't just stop your medicines, it is always best to taper off when your body is ready to come off of the meds. Talk to your doctor.

No matter what, you are going to be absolutely beautiful on your wedding day!!!
