Big Lag btwn Ceremony and Reception: Need Help with Transportation Planning
Hey my ceremony is at 4pm in Brooklyn, and the cocktail hour starts at 8pm in Long Island (reception starts at 9pm). It's like a 45 min drive from the church to the reception and we're taking our photos after the ceremony. We have 12 people in our bridal party. How should we handle transportion? Does anyone else have this problem? We were thinking about having a limo pick me up from the house and a big limo (18 passenger or bus) pick up the bridesmaids. The groom and the GM would drive themselves to the church. And we all go in the big bus to the reception. Does this sounds okay? My problem is we're on a budget and I don't know if we can afford to have the big limo stay during the entire reception in order to drop the bridal party back home. How is everyone dealing with transporation????

Does the bus have to stay or can it come back to get you after the reception? If not, you can arrange some car service for the trip back. Maybe you would need 3-4 cars.

No the bus does not have to stay. I guess I'm just wondering how the bridal party would get home if we don't provide transportation.

i got the 745i for the girls and my parents to go to the church in, and the 'boys' and fh and his fam will go in the escalade. after church the whole wedding party, including fh and I, will go in the escalade to take pics wherever that may be and then to the reception hall... and the parents will have use of the bmw limo cause we have it for an additional 2.5 hrs or so. as for getting home afterwards, we have a car for us, but usually the wedding parties dates will drive them or they will carpool with other guests that they know!

Exotica, thanks for the information because I was really stressing out about this transportation issue. I have only been to one wedding so I really didn't know that it's okay to have the BP arrange for their own transportation home.

no problem hun!! with so much to plan you will drive yourself really crazy trying to figure out how to get everyone home afterwards!!!! another option is if you are all going to be staying in the same hotel after usually they provide some kind of transportation like a bus or something!

The bridal party is responsible for their transportation after the ceremony. My friends are going to drop off a few cars at the hall so they can all smush in to get back to the hotel, which is only up the street.

Damn, why didn't I just ask this question earlier!???? Even my poor FH was trying to figure out what we were going to do.YES, YES.. They will take themselves home.
Hmmn, hotel ?? Damn, didn't get to that yet. Uggh, so much to do. So little time. But, I'm enjoying it. Thanks again everyone for the advice.

wow 4 hours in between - that is a really long time for guests to just meander around - what are they going to do for 4 hours??? why dont you hire a bus rather than individual limos to go back to bklyn - personally i think if you are bringing them out to the island you need to provide a way for them to get back

I haven't really thought about what the guests would do. I figured some might go home and relax but I don't know about the OOT guests. Maybe they'll go back to the hotel? We were even thinking about asking a family member to host a little party during the lag. Has anyone been to one of those. Do they work or do most people just ignore them?

what i have been getting quotes for is 5 hours for an esclade - and then paying to have that car come back - but a night pickup for me is like another $250 to $300
Figure out what time you want to get to crest hollow to figure out how long you need the car - they will do night pickups- but it is not necessry if you yor bridal party has dates
one other thing i have seen done - is meeting the limo at the reception place so that everyone leaves there cars at the reception hall

Okay, having them picked up at the reception hall, might be possible, but I would prefer to have them picked up in Brooklyn just in case there is bad traffic. Maybe we can get some of the BP to leave their cars at the reception hall b4 the wedding. I really would like to provide transportation for them back home because I want them to be able to fully enjoy the bar. :) A night pick-up might work too. Maybe I should ask them if they think they would need transportation from the reception hall because some of them might prefer to leave with their dates.
