Bills for the houshold are all in DH's name because he had the apartment before he met me. But it is getting annoying now when people call. We had some stupid telemarketer call the other day asking for DH. I said he was not there, and to put us on their do not call list. The guy told me he needs to hear from my DH to put us on the list. I told the guy, this is his wife, I own this phone to, and put us on the do not call list, he then proceeded to tell me he can't and I told he to drop dead. When we move out of our apartment into a house the bills will all be transferred into both our names!!

Re: Bills...
Basically, if he was in charge of paying for it, it went in his name. And if I paid it, it went in my name. But now that we are staying with my parents for a few more months, there's not many bills other than the cars and the insurance, cell phones and credit cards, and most of those need to be in the name of the person using them. When we move out again, I am sure everything will just go in my name because I am in charge of paying all the bills(with HIS money, of course ) Hope that helped.

Re: Bills...
All the household bills are in DH's name (or some even in his late mother's name since we live in the house he grew up in) ... but basically he pays the mortgage & I pay the 'incidentals'

Ahhhh the beauty of not having a landline phone and only carrying a cellphone. Its illegal for telemarketers to call you on your cellphone (thank god).
All the bills are in my name except for my FW's personal bills. I plan to keep it that way. NO JOINT ACCOUNTS or bills. We will keep one bill in both of our names for proof purposes... but I am gonna post a link in another topic to a website explaining why you should NEVER go joint on bills or credit.

Re: Bills...
Lease & parking are in both our names Telephone & LIPA are in his name Cable & Internet are in my name We have separate cell phone bills, credit cards, and bank accounts. We usually 'settle up' at the end of the month, but we've been considering opening a joint account for household things. Any thoughts on this? We also need to figure out whose account the wedding money is going into--the money we're acquiring now to pay for everything.

We have a joint account and seperate accounts. He pays all the bills out of our joint account for which I transfer some of my funds over each pay day. He wanted the job of writing out the bills so I gladly gave it to him!
We also have credit cards in our own names and share one jointly.

Re: Bills...
We were just discussing this with our Pastor.
I have been living in my apartmnet for almost 4 years. FH is on the lease, so the rent has both names, but everything else is my name.
Our plan is to have some bills in each name ( in case we need to show proof of residence, like for a library card, driver's license, etc) & we plan to each keep a credit card in our name as the account holder & the other person as a secondary card holder.
It is important that you develop separate credit histories. So, in case one of you dies or is incapacitated, the living partner will be able to take out loans, etc.
ETA: we will pay everything out of 1 joint account.

If building your own 'Credit Histories' is what you plan to accomilish... having a 'secondary card holder' totally defeats the purpose. Why do you need to have a secondary card holder in the first place if you both will have your own cards?
