Birdcage

Birdcage

Has anyone thought about or used a birdcage instead of a money bag for all the cards/checks at the reception? I'm not fond of the idea of carrying around a pouch all night and am afraid I would put it down and forget where. Any ideas/suggestions?

Robert aka Bart,
What a coincidence! You posting a positive review on Bart Stevens at 12:16 am and then Bart Stevens himself posts at 12:20am.

Birdcage

I've seen one for sale in a catalog for about $35 undecorated. It's 16 1/2 x 10. It costs about the same a buying a money pouch. Is it safe to leave the birdcage unattended?

I used one for my wedding. It worked out great. I rented it form Patchogue Floral Fantasyland. If I remember correctly it was $30 with a $70 deposit that is returned when you bring the birdcage back.

I would think it would be pretty obvious if someone was walking out the door with a birdcage but I would put it in a somewhat inaccessible spot. Also, I assume that you are all referring to using it to put the envelopes in after guests give them to you, right? I would hate for my guests to think that I wanted them to 'deposit' their envelopes in it so that's why it's all the better to put it in an inaccesible spot.

Birdcage

There isn't a collection of money. Most guests bring monetary gifts to the wedding enclosed in a card. They hand the card over to the bride instead of leaving it on the gift table. To keep all the cards together, the bride traditionally carries a purse or money bag. In lieu of a money bag, a birdcage may be used where guests or the bride drop off the cards so that she doesn't have to carry a purse all night. My problem with the purse is I may put it down sometime during the evening while dancing or hugging people and then forget where I left it. Plus who wants to be carrying a purse all night.

I am using something similar - a decorated box. I ordered it online. It cost about $50 but I will keep it as my keepsake box to store the cards, garter, invite, etc. etc. It's really pretty. I am planning on keeping it either on a 'gift' table behind our table or on my Dad's table so someone can keep an eye on it. I'd rather that than lug the bag around all night...
