I've been on the pill forever, lately I've been thinking of going off of it for all sorts of diff reasons. One of them being I've been having a hard time losing weight and read that that pill might have something to do with it (obv not the entire reason why). I spoke to my doc and she said its whatever I feel comfortable with, i was just wondering for those who aren't taking it anymore what kind of things happened? Has anyone gone off the pill and noticed that it was easier to lose weight? Will it mess up my cycle if i stop taking them? TIA !

Re: Birth Control Question
honestly...i would not recommend doing this before the wedding...i am still on the pill for that reason and plan to stop after my wedding. i have some friends that stopped and had issues. Now everyone is different so you never know but IMO..I wouldnt risk it....
acne, weight gain/loss (drastic). harmones wackiness...., lots of different things....your body goes thru a lot and its a big chnge to stop/start the pill....my best friend stop the night of her wedding (mainly because they wanted to try to get preggers)....she got such horrible acne all over and was miserable! Of course she dealt with it cause they wanted a baby...but...not if you are walking down the aisle...now dont let me scare you...it doesnt happen to everyone...some people have no reaction....sorry...i am just telling you what i would tell my friend....

Hi!
I went off the pill about a year ago.....for reasons that I wasnt getting my period at all which I thought was not natural. Anyway, Once I went off of it, I found that I lost weight and went back to my normal cycle. But I heard its different for everybody.
You could always try it, ya know?

Re: Birth Control Question
Instead of going off completely I would try a different one.

I agree, I would definitely talk to your doctor and possibly switch pills. I switched pills a few years back b/c my other pill was making me neurotic (so much so I drove myself crazy! ), Once I switched I feel like my hormones are all back in balance... This could be the case for weight gain/loss too

Re: Birth Control Question
I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen -Lo. I stopped my birth Control 4 months before the wedding. I was able to lose weight easier. But now I have gained weight since my wedding, but that is my own fault from not eating right. Anyway, I have had no prblems stoppping. My cycle was off for the first month but adjusted for the second. Only difference i see is that i tend to get more cramps.

Re: Birth Control Question
If you've been taking it for a while.. i wouldn't stop before the wedding..... you don't know how its going to affect your body, as it is a shock to your system. It's possible you could have no side effects of getting off of it , but you never know.. I would err of the side of caution and wait until after... jmo.

Re: Birth Control Question
I came off the pill and my cycle was a mess for quite awhile. I did not gain or lose weight but my weight was not affected by the pill when I started taking it.

Re: Birth Control Question
I heard this from my optometrist...
The pill dries out your skin. Which is why they sometimes prescribe it to people with acne. he said it is the reason my eyes were getting dry from my contacts.
So, for some people, you may start breaking out again.
Also - remembering back to something I read- the pill artifically controls your hormones. Most women have a change in metabilsm during PMS. For most women it speeds up. The pill stops this speeding up of metabolism and thus, you gain weight. But this is not true for all women.
Everyone is different. If you do want to try and go off the pill, I recommend doing it 6 mos before the wedding. That way, if you do have terrible reactions after 2 months, you can go back on it and be back to normal by the wedding day.

I am on that one too...I like it so far..now is not the best of times to mess around with your system unless you are sure that you want to risk pregnancy
