birthday gift questions...

okay so we were invited to my mothers best friends granddaughters (julianna) 1st birthday tomorrow, which is a combo party with her sons (mike) 40th.
background:

okay we've never been to the house and we've never met the baby.

we see mike all the time, when he's home, him and my father are really close, but he travels a lot on business and vacation (a lot as in he's home for like 4 months during the year)

what do we get a one year old girl that we know nothing about? clothes??

and what do we get a 40 year old that moves around a lot? he's into music, but has like EVERY cd ever made..

i hate this!

for the baby, i'd say a cute toy (do NOT buy a ride-on car though - my future-nephew received 5 of them for his 1st birthday). I bought him some bath toys and it was a HUGE hit (floating toys, bath crayons, etc)

for the 40 year old, how about a great headset for his ipod? or a gift cert to itunes?

thanks girls, but I'm actually anti-g/c...
but that might be easier.
I think we might just run upto target and browse.. if we see something we'll grab it, if not.. g/c's it is.
