So, I just decorated my last tree with my mom as a non-married, live at home daughter. We had the Christmas music on, laughed and put up the tree and window decorations. My mom and I have done this every year since I was a little girl and it's such a happy yet sad way to start a holiday. I'm tearing as I'm typing this since it hit me that this really is the last Christmas at home. I think I'm going to invite her over every year to do my tree and come here to help her. Just needed to share...anyone else feeling this way too?

Absolutely....it was sad this year. My family always decorates together but this year while my parents were in miami at a destination wedding, my sister and my FH decided we would decorate everything and surprise them (both of my parents are sick and my mom is in a ton of pain---she is getting her 2nd knee replacement in January). They were so happy. Later that week i cried to FH that i was so upset...my last christmas living home and i didnt even decorate with my mom and dad. We did save a bunch of ornaments to put on the tree together though which we did. I just cant believe this will be my last christmas morning, running down the stairs in my christmas pjs. Very bittersweet.

My mom feels the same way, but seems to be holding back a little. She knows I can get really emotional and I start crying when I think of things as being the last....so I know she holds up for me : ) Great thing is that FH and I bought a house in the same town and am literally a one minute car ride away.....so I'm sure once I'm out, it won't be that much of a shock. We are going to bake cookies soon too...that should be hard too : (

That's awesome!! Debi is so busy with her job, I always am thrilled to see her when she walks in the front door!!!!!!!! She and Fred plan to move even closer after marrying. I do feel for Fred's Mom, in Long Island, since she doesn't see her only child a lot! Deb and Fred are going to be in Long Island for Christmas. They want to find a RD venue. Mary MOB

I hope they move closer for you! That was a given....we both wanted to be close to our families. We are in the same town of both of our families, and FH's sister just married in August and bought a house in this town too! Family is so important to us and we wanted to be a literal hop, skip and jump away!

I think they'll be around for awhile, but have talked about moving to State College, where Fred can transfer , and Deb can finally go back to Penn State, for her Masters Degree in Guidance Counseling. With her current BS in Human Dev. and Family Studies, it's been tough to get jobs, outside the non-profit arena. Mary MOB

It is. I think it's different for people who moved out on their own or just lived with their bf/gf. The whole idea of moving out to get married and start a whole new life is what gets me all emotional...in a happy way though : )

same here...FH and I have never lived together and although he moved away for school, I never did, so this will be all new to me. I am looking forward to starting a new life together and remind myself that people do this all the time and eventually it will not be 'sad.' But I guess the anticipation of it is what gets me...I think if I did not have a lot of time to become sentimental about it it might be better...it is nice to know that I am not silly for feeling this way and I am not alone

Aaawww....I hope you feel better....I'm the same way...I'm actually afraid I will be crying the whole time of my wedding!
But I don't think we should look at it as an end to something...last year my FH and I decorated our first Christmas tree together, but I also went over my mom's and decorated their Christmas tree and the house there as well. I plan on doing the same thing every year. I wouldn't want to miss out on it, it's too much fun!
Just think of it as having to decorate two trees every year instead of one!

oohh yes I teared up reading this. We used to do the same thing every year but all of us. Although I moved out of moms house years ago, reading this brought back such memories.
