Black suits...

Black suits...

Gents-

we had been thinking of doing black suits instead of tuxes, because

1) we didn't want to be formal, and
2) we thought we'd try to save the guys some money.

It now turns out that at least half my groomsmen don't have black suits. ideas on what I should do next?

I would still rent the tux. It is most likely going to be cheaper than buying a suit.

I think it would be real hard to find something that your guys already own that would be similar cut and color since each suit is slightly different.

To save money for my groomsmen I took the free tux we got thrown in with the package and spread out the money to lower the individual cost of each tux.

I’ve never tried to rent a suit before but maybe you could find suits to rent that are similar to the ones that your other groomsmen already have, so you can save the people with a suit already some money.

Not a bad idea. Honestly, I would be okay if everyone had slightly differently cut suits, so long as they matched, but the first suit I ever owned was a black suit, and I had no idea one could get through life without it.

I know what you're saying, but think of it this way. How many different variations on black are there?

The first suit I owned was also black, although I no longer fit in it now…

This is what I did. I went to one of these stores you can find in almost any large mall that sells discounted name-brand suits. Me and the wife-to-be looked around for some nice-looking yet reasonably priced suits. We found a nice black Italian made suit. We had all of the groomsmen's sizes with us, so we then bought the sizes in that particular suit that we needed. The good thing about guys' suits is that it's not like a woman's dress which needs to fit every little curve. The suits ran about $125 each. I charged each of the groomsman $100 and I paid for the balance.

Otherwise, they are all gonna pay around $75 to rent a tuxedo (I think they run around that much) and have nothing useful after your wedding day. For another $25-$50 they can have a brand new black suit which can be worn pretty much anywhere.

That's my $0.02
