Black Tie ????

Black Tie ????

I just received an invitation to a friend's wedding. The reception card said 'Black Tie Invited', does that mean required or suggested???? Also I was planning on wearing a dress slightly below my knee, is that okay for Black Tie or does it have to be a floor length gown???

I think it means required. If it is not required than I have seen Black Tie Optional. I think it needs to be a long dress to the floor, or one of those asymmetrical but longer length dresses. Guys must wear tuxes.

i think 'Black Tie' invited, means that it's not required, but they 'invite' people to be formal. i don't think you *have* to have a floor length gown. if it comes to just below your knees, that should be nice. just make sure you get the hair and nails done that day!

I would like to know more too

Does it mean guys have to wear tuxes? Can they wear regular suit?

Re: Black Tie ????

I think it really depends on a lot on the dress.

I think you should look very dressed up. Though many floor length gowns would be suitable, but also a shorter gown with elegant shoes night work. Below are 2 dresses that aren't floor length but very formal.

Where did you find those dresses?

Black Tie Invited means you have the option of wearing a tuxedo, but it should clue you into the formality of the event, meaning a dark suit and tie would be your other option. Women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.

I found that on about.com

I assume it means the same as 'black tie optional' or 'blck tie preferred' if it meant you had to be black tie, it would simply state 'black tie'

Neiman Marcus under the 'gown' section.

They are very over priced there -- but they have outstanding stuff.

Happy to help!

FYI -- I also loved this one but it is long, so wasn't relevant.
