black tie?

black tie?

Do BMs only wear black in a black tie wedding? Just curious, cause my BM dresses have some black in them and someone asked me this question....

Re: black tie?

The color of the BM dresses has nothing to do with whether the wedding is Black Tie attire for guests.

I didn't think so, but I just thought it was an unusual question she asked...

I didn't put it on my invite but the fact that its on a saturday evening i think many will get the point. The reason why I personally didn't say black tie affair or didn't even mention the dress code on my invites is because many men will think they have to wear tuxedo's. Personally i don't want that, i want them to dress up of course, but i like seeing many different styles of suits, colorful ties, different shirts, i am weird about these things and don't like people looking alike hahaha. I even told my bm's do whatever you want with hair, shoes, make up and do whatever you want to show your personality, you want to wear leopard shoes go for it, i am hoping they all have different styles lol. I trust my guests though and I am not worried about how they will show up. If theres 1 or 2 oh well that won't effect me, but i know the majority will look great

Ours was not Black Tie, but we did indicate Formal Attire ... and we got just the result we were looking for in what our guests wore.

We put 'Black Tie Preferred' on our invitations. I didn't want anyone to feel obligated to wear a tux, but I didn't want guests showing up in khakis and sundresses. I did this mainly for my husband's extended family - they're from another state and don't really 'get' proper etiquette, manners....reality

It's amazing though, you would think that people would realize that a Saturday night wedding in NY is a formal affair, but there are always clueless people out there...

No usually black tie means tuxedo and gowns. It doesnt mean only black

We didnt put anything on our invites as far as the formality and everyone was dressed appropriately and we had alot of OOT from down south

Re: black tie?

ours is black tie.. i figure we wont have any other party in my lifetime that will be as formal as our wedding.. so i think it'll be fun. especially since ours is on a friday.. maybe ppl need it to be spelled out? i dont know.. some people are pretty clueless.. either that or they dont care?

at my sister's sweet 16 2 years ago, we actually had a formal party at Russo's on the Bay and a couple (parents' 'friends') brought their two preteen daughters who wear wearing JEANS & CONVERSES to the party!.. i was entertaining all the guests (wearing my nice long gown) so when i went to say hi to them, i was trying not to look down. i didnt want to be rude and didnt know what to say, but i was FUMING inside.. i mean come on.. you get a nice invite and you show up wearing that? i dont know why my dad even invited them.. it was so extreme and insulting!

at first i wanted to do black tie but then i felt kind of bad for my guests - i didnt want co-workers and our guy friends to go out and buy a tux or feel obligated to wear one, same for the men on my side of the family - im sure none of them own a tuxedo - in my FHs family all the uncles always wear tuxedos to the weddings of their neices/nephews but my family is opposite and since im the first to get married there really isnt any tradition i figure letting people decide what to wear would be less awkward - im sure all the men will either be in suits or tuxes and im hoping all my female guests dress appropriately (not like skanks!!!)

I dont really understand the whoe idea or meaning for a back tie affair.. I dont want this to come off the wrong way but Im not so sure I think black tie is always necessary. im not sure why peopl would want their whole wedding to be dressed in tuxes...wouldnt that take away from the groom and ushers? I think putting 'formal attire' is more then enough to make sure people dress nicely.
If you really want black tie then justmake sure you realize that most of your guests will have to go out and rent and tux and the girls will have to buy a gown and they might deduct some $ off your gift bc they had to spend $$ on their dresses and tuxes...just a head up!

we are putting black tie preferred on the invitations. I understand that this may inconvenience some people and I am not expecting all men to come dressed in a tux; however, I will be expecting a formal suit. I think that if people have questions about attire, they will ask.

maybe they'll think that since its a really formal affair, the $$ gift should be really formal too? lolzz

OMG!!!!!! I must really be stupid. I always thought that black tie ment suite not a tux. NO NO NO tux but a suite. My FH is from uspate and we have gone to weddings where people had jeans on and polo shirts. No sorry you must have a suite and tie. You dont need a tux. I feel really stupid.

I really want people to be dressed in suits and ties and appropriate dresses. If I see someone in kakkis I'm going to be hurt.

Should I put formal attire (I did on my sweet 16) but for a wedding would that be rude to assume they don't know??
