Black Tie Affair/Saturday Night

Black Tie Affair/Saturday Night

What does this exactly mean? The wedding is in a hotel in MD but there will be plenty of people from LI/City there.

Black Long?
Black Short?

I have both but I like my black short dress better. Can I do at the knee?

Thanks!

A black tie wedding is very formal. I say go with the long dress. If it says 'black tie optional' that's a different story. Then you can go short.

No it says black tie...
Does that mean hubby has to wear a tux or can we get away with a dark suit?

He should wear a tux if he can, but if not, I've seen people wear black suits.

so what you are saying is i have to wear long.... no short black dress although it is dressy??

I personally think you can get away with a short dress if it's a dark color, dressy and is not too long. Especially in the summer.

However, FH feels that you should always only wear long dresses to black tie events.

I think either a long dress would be more appropriate. It doesn't have to be a gown that poofy which those are usually more expensive.

I've seen some women wear a simple short black dress to black tie weddings and they were very underdressed compared to everyone else.
