What do you think?

Re: Black Tie Optional.....
Write 'formal attire' not 'black tie'...that way, people will get dressed up but won't go out and get a tux.

Re: Black Tie Optional.....
I have to figure out what to write as well.
I think all the men in FH's family have their own tuxes. They do a lot of black tie events, weddings, bar/bat mitvahs ect. I did NOT want our wedding to be black tie. Only problem is I don't want anyone feeling uncomfortable and i don't want to require everyone to wear a tux especially since its a sunday day weddings.

Re: Black Tie Optional.....
Honestly, I think it depends on your guest list. I just recently went to a black tie optional wedding where the majority of guests were all middle class people who never went to a black tie wedding before and the buzz at the cocktail hour was 'who does this bride think she is?' I'm not saying that is right, I'm just saying you should consider that.

I agree...I feel like if you write black tie optional people will feel that black tie is what should be worn...but formal says it best...JMO

NO. I would just say Formal Attire. if you say formal attire optional it sounds like you dont have to dress up at all, but you can if you want.

I also agree. They should know what to wear if you write that.

I don't know if I'd say formal attire tho, that sounds like black tie to me
That might be a little too confusing.....I guess everyone is different.
EH i'll probably just leave it out and whatever people show up in they show up in.

I'd go with Black Tie Optional...
That's pretty universal...

Re: Black Tie Optional.....
We are writing 'Formal Reception Immediately Following'. I want people dressed up (not in tuxes, but something suitable) and I think that some of FH friends and family will show up not dressed up at all. SO at least this way I can polietly let them know that although it isn't a black tie affair it is a formal affair.
