black tie optional?

black tie optional?

what do you ladies think of adding black tie optional to our invites?
here is the backggrund info...
FMIL has been difficult and wants to wear a short dress to our saturday night wedding. My bridal party will be in long black gowns and the men will be in tuxedos. I gave up fighting with FMIL however the other night she mentioned her brother-in-law coming to the wedding in jeans...to which i responded my dad would ask him to leave. apparently this pissed off FMIL and she said she hopes her out of town family from ohio doesnt come bc they wont be dressed to my standards (call me crazy but jeans to a night wedding is not standards...its common sense). anyway, in light of this i want to add black tie optional (or preferred) to our invites. this would def piss off FMIL but i dont care.
what would you do?

If it makes you feel better.. than add it.. but honestly.. if someone wears jeans regardless or it being on the invite.. its kinda strange!

add it

My friend got married on LI to a guy from Nebraska, and he had a few family members show up in jeans. Seriously. Saturday evening wedding as well.

Write it

What about 'semi formal attire requested'

I would add it as well. Black tie also means short cocktail dresses, not just long gowns.

It seems if you have out of state guests you should probably add it. I personally have never been to a wedding that someone wore jeans but it seems people from other states have different views.

Just add it to say yourself a headache

I think if you have a lot of guest from OOT def. add it. I have a lot of oot guest but all who are from NY so I am not worried. I would kick someone out who wore jeans to my wedding!

I would definitely add anything that was suggested above because if some are willing to wear jeans hopefully it will make them think twice

I'd use 'black tie optional'. Preferred is VERY suggestive of what you want whereas optional still leaves a little room for decision yet should be an indicator to guests you expect appropriate attire.

I am adding it period. Some long lost fam members do not know how to dress and I will personally escort ppl out. I hate adults without common sense.

I have the same on my invites. theres no way anyone is coming with jeans to my wedding sorry. If they are an out of towner-- all they need to do is use google to find out how to dress to a wedding.
