Black Tie or Black Tie Optional?

Black Tie or Black Tie Optional?

I am having a Saterday night wedding and my FMIL assumed we would make it black tie. My FH and I were thinking more black tie optional so those without (primarily our friends) would not have to go out and buy one.

What is everyone doing?

How about black tie preferred? This way some people will go out and buy a tux and others will know you don't want sweaters and khakis... jmo

Our's is a Saturday night too and I think we did black tie preferred. I think that was the wording on the invites.....

I just asked a question similar to this because we wanted to have people in tuxes - some friends excited about it. Well a bunch of us were all talking yesterday and some people told me they felt Black tie does not mandate a tux whereas white tie does. I don't agree with that so I was asking to see if I was in the minority in this idea.
They felt that black tie - means tux or dark suit - black tie optional means women dress but men wear dark suits, and white tie - means everyone wears a tux

wow.. I never heard of that before..

I'm only doing black tie optional because I don't want people who can't afford to to go out and buy tuxes..

I never heard of that either...I was thinking along the same lines as Marcella. However the Preferred also sounds like a good option.

we are doing Black tie but you can also do BLack Tie Invited, a couple of my friends have used that

We did Black tie preferred. My FH thought that if you do Black tie optional - then those who already own tux (and who are adverse to wearing them unless mandatory) may still choose not to wear them.
