Hi everyone- I always said that I would not put 'black tie' or 'black tie' optional on my wedding invitations. You will see that I posted just yesterday saying that I don't like it.
WELL--I'm usually so set in my ways but FH and I got to talking today and now we think we want a a 'black tie optional' wedding.
Here are my reasons:
We are getting married on a Saturday night in a beautiful synagogue. We have friends who have never been to a synagogue wedding and they might think that it is like having it in the basement of a local church or VFW hall. None of our friends or family has ever been to this particular synagogue so it is not a known quantity and people will have no way to know whether to dress up.
We will be having a big band and we know that our flowers will be great b/c our florist is a family member. We have tons of extras at cocktail hour and dessert. So we have the makings of a 'black tie optional event.'
We also think that some people might think that the wedding is a ceremony only, so we will write 'reception immediately following' or some such words on tie invitation.
So, if anyone has a reason that I might not have thought of, for either having 'black tie optional' or not, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Re: Black Tie--You helped change my mind
You do not have to justify your choice for having a 'black tie' or 'black tie optional' wedding to anyone nor do you have to list the reasons. If someone asks you, then say 'I want it that way.' If they challenge you? Simply accept their differences of opinion with a smile and a nod. Its YOUR party and have BLACK TIE if you want to!!!!
