I am doing a black & white wedding. Not formal black tie, just black & white,,
Id like for both moms to be dressed in black. Not frumpy , but ithink with the pics & all it would look nice, if the immed family, My parents & his , are in black. ( the dads will be tuxes anyways)
My mom is cool with the idea, but my FMIL is like BLACK, its a wedding not a funeral,, I tried to tell her how elegant it looks & all, & she just keeps pushing the subject off by saying, Oh we have plenty of time, as if to say I may change my mind,,
So am I being outta line asking her to wear black, She can bead her self to death for all I care, long as its black, I even told her predominatly black,,
BTW ( this keeps it on the safe side as she could very well show up in a red dress with a slit up to there) So thats why I suggested black,,

If you a doing a black & white wedding then it goes. Personally, I don't want my mom or his in black. I told them I want them in a color. I feel that alot of people wear black dresses and I want them to stand out that day. I can understand her point (sorry) but again, that is your theme and she should respect what you are asking for.

I like the idea, but here is another thought. Why not have the BP wear Black dresses and that way your Mom, FMIL of whoever can wear another color? or maybe even a cream color?
I personally love black, that is what my girls are wearing. But, since my Mom and FMIL are not in the BP, I would like for them not to wear the same color as my BP and stand out.
If you girls are not wearing black, then I say go for it. I love Black so I am a little one sided

i like the idea... i've seen it once and it was very elegant. my mom bought a black gown for my sister's wedding... it looks phenominal on her and it's not a typical MOB dress either. it's so fitting for an evening wedding and very classy.
i think it'll work out well for you!

My mom picked out a black dress when she went looking, at first I didn't know how I felt about it but, when I saw it on her, I couldn't imagine the dress in any other color. There are so many elegant black dresses out there that don't make you look like you are going to a funeral!

I agree.. I am a big fan of black too..but at my wedding I want my mothers to be in happy colors.. Even to my E-Party i opted not to wear black and wear a happy color..
If u really want the black and white theme then push for it but.. if she is an Italian mother, it might be hard to sway her. Good Luck hunny!!!

See My BM's are in black, ,, I have no problem with the moms in a color , but I know what that will end up like with my fmil, so im tryign to be diplomatic with her, . She is 60 & is very slim, she dont dress like a 60 year old woman, dresses like she is in her 20's , so I can imagine what she might show up in if I dont say , no id like for both moms to be in black,,
My mom found a real pretty dress, beads & all , less that nasty mob jacket they try & make the moms go for,, LOL
I dont know , just figured if I told her what color, there wouldn be any surprises,,

What about Silver, that is safe for her. Or screw it Toni, tell her you want her to wear black and that is it. I know her type as described above and I don't blame you for making the decision for her.

Yea, she should respect ur decision if you want her to wear black she should. I think I would have my FH talk to her as well.

Re: Black & White Wedding
tell her johnny cash wore black all the time... people used to say 'what's with the black? looks like you are going to a funeral' and he would say 'maybe i am'
i still say i love it!!

Re: Black & White Wedding
I hear what your's saying Toni, loud and clear. Regardless of the color she may still get a very sexy dress. Is this something you and FH have spoken about? Maybe he can tell his mom to tone it down that day.
My mom is in her 50's and in fabulous shape therefore she takes it upon herself to dress like a 25 year old. For my sisters wedding, she got a dress from a catalogue that specializes in proms and sweet 16!!! I do have to admitt she toned it down since then and her dress for my wedding is a nice cream color and even has a jacket.

what if she wears a slinky black dress slit up to wherever! color can't help that!
I think black for the bms sounds nice, but i agree with maybe letting the in-laws where whatever color.

If you are really worried about that, I think cream is the safest. It's one of those colors that always look polished and tough to get in a sexy dress. black can look pretty sexy, but you're right about red.
