Question for all you decorating ladies...We are nearly done furnishing our livingroom and diningroom and I'm onto window treatments. We have lots of windows in both rooms and the previous owners did a fabulous job of putting up beautiful crown moldings and moildings around all the windows. I'm havaing a hard time figuring out if I should put up blinds for privacy or just some type of curtain to let the moldings show and add a little color. Or can you use both?? Can anyone help?

Re: Blinds or no blinds???
I am a big hater of blinds but they way our house is situated we HAD to get blinds. We got vertical ones so at least I can pull them open all the way and not have cords hanging down! I also am getting window treatments to put over the blinds. It will be 2 long curtians on either end of the picture window, then valances the rest of the way!! My mom has here window set up in a similar way and it looks beautiful.
Hope that helps!

Re: Blinds or no blinds???
I definitely think you can do both. Draperies are beautiful and add to the decor of the room but they dont do much in teh way of privacy unless you want to sit in a dark room on a sunny day. So i definitely think you can get some pretty wood blinds and drapes.
Or how about sheer draperies under thicker ones. That way you can get the light in without giving the neighbor a peep show :D
(Im not sure how far from the street you are so I dont know how much privacy is a concern but for me its #1. I have blinds on every window in my house.)

You can definately do both. Have you thought of fabric shades and drapes?

Hmmm - fabric shades and blinds may be the way to go. Does anyone have any pics to share???

Can you post pics of the window and the crown moulding just so we can get some ideas of what the room looks like.
I would go with some sort of window shade....maybe...Something that wont cover up the crown mouldings.

Re: Blinds or no blinds???
Lets see if this works (I have a terrible track record of being able to post pics)...
Edited to add, these are obviously old pics as there's no furniture in any of the rooms in these!

How about soemthing like this:
Using the double rod you can have sheer and heavier drapes.

Re: Blinds or no blinds???
Really great suggestion with the double rod - looks very pretty. But here's my next question - so if I do this look, both have to go all the way to floor, correct? The reason I ask is b/c we have these very pretty wooden radiator cover boxes thast sit in the middle of the windows and I guess they will be completely covered up...I can't have it all, can I?

Re: Blinds or no blinds???
Jenny, I have a radiator right in the middle of my living room window too. (although I dont have a pretty cover)
Anyway..how abuot doing a sheer fabric shade that is just inside the window box and then heavy curtains that you could tie back on the sides. That way you get the sheer look with light streaming in, privacy, you can see the molding and show off the radiator box.
what about the roll up shades? my mom has these on her french doors and kitchen windows...

Re: Blinds or no blinds???
If you have at leat 2in. within the inside of the window, you can mount blinds inside. This way your mouldings will still show. We also have the crown mouldings around our windows. We're getting wood blinds and mounting them on the inside of the window. This way our mouldings will still show!
