Re: BLOCKING HOTEL ROOMS

You just call the hotel and tell them how many rooms you are going to need. We did not have to put down a deposit. Most of the places that we called will hold the rooms for you until a month before your wedding and then they release any unbooked rooms in the block.

I've had the same experience as the above post, except that my hotel sent us a contract outlining all the details that we signed and mailed back.

NO, you don't have to leave a deposit, in fact if some of your family memebers don't use it your not even responsible

Did you guys go visit the hotels before blocking them to see if you liked the room quality?

Just wondering

Most don't require a deposit or guarentee; however, there were a couple i called that did. Just make sure you ask... there are plenty out there that don't require it, so you should have no problem!

Re: BLOCKING HOTEL ROOMS

funny you should mention this, because we had a bad experience with this very thing this past weekend. we were all set with blocked rooms at the harrison house in glen cove until we went there on friday. the woman we've been dealing with there told us that we need to pay UP FRONT for all the rooms we want to block for the night of the wedding. this comes out to about $8000. anyway, i thought we would be credited each time someone books a room, but no. we won't be credited the money until the day after the wedding when people check out of their rooms and their credit cards get charged. i thought that was ridiculous! it would be ok if we were credited each time someone booked, but that's not the case there, apparently. so, now we're looking into other places. i don't think it's worth it to carry that balance for over a year when there are plenty of other places that don't have this policy. just a heads up. good luck.

you call a hotel, theylll send you a contract.. you have to sign it and 1 month before the wedding you and your guests need to book the rooms.. they should give you a discount code to use

I've been visiting hotels with my FH and seeing a reg room and the suite. I've been looking at Marriot hotels and they don't require a deposit and it's ok if the rooms aren't all used. I think that we're going to book the Wingate in Garden City- the have the best suites and decent prices.

Re: BLOCKING HOTEL ROOMS

most places let you block 15-20 rooms at no charge to you. over that amount and you have to pay a portion to hold them. i blocked my 20 rooms and then if i need more, i will ask them to block another 10 or so rooms if they're still available

Re: BLOCKING HOTEL ROOMS

It all depends on the individual hotel/motel.
I block 10 -15 rooms for each wedding party, depending on the season. I hold them 6 to 8 weeks prior to the wedding and don't require a deposit from the Bride and Groom until the cutoff date. If they want me to hold them past that (again depending on the season) I need a deposit. Their guests call and book the rooms and I require full payment at the time of booking. (That's our policy with all reservations.) Once they are filled and paid for, I'll add rooms.
