How many options are you offering your guests? We won't have many OOT guests, probably will only need to block about 10-15 rooms MAX. I was thinking that we should go with two options for hotels, one that is more luxurious (high to moderately priced) and one that is more economical (low to moderately priced). What are you ladies doing? I'll take any South Shore hotel recommendations as well

We're only offering one option because we're paying for a shuttle to the RH. I think that a higher end and moderate hotel choice is a good idea if you don't have that conflict.

We're going with one because we plan on shuttling everyone from hotel, to church, to hotel, to reception and back to hotel..
We just dont want anyone drinking and driving, many of our local guests are going to take advantage of that just because of the coach bus.
So long story short, we are doing a nicer hotel that is accomodating the bar hours for us.

I'm going with only one hotel. I don't know if you are looking for Nassau or Suffolk but in Rockville centre there are 3 hotels - The Hampton Inn (higher priced) and then there's the Sunrise Exec Hotel (being renamed the Rockville centre inn) and the best wester mill river which are both around the same price....we also plan on having a bus bring guests to the RH from the hotel.

I am offering one. If people want to shop around then they can.
Note: I choose to book at a cheaper hotel than the inn at fox hollow

I just offered one- it's the most convenient and cheapest. And we're providing a shuttle. They can always look for other options- in this day and age with internet, they don't need our help!

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms . . . . . . . . .
We secured rates at two hotels (one where the reception will be, and another one up the road). Then we are listing other options for people at a motel that is hear our ceremony and then a couple of b&b's in the village in case people want a different option. All of the b&b's are within walking distance of the RH. Depending on how many people stay at the hotel up the road, we may or may not get a shuttle to go back and forth. There's only a $10 difference b/w the two hotels, so people may just pay the $10 more to be able to crawl back to their rooms at the end of the night.

With two hotels, aren't you worried that not enough guests might book in one or the other and you'll end up paying for empty rooms.
At the Roslyn Claremont, where I blocked rooms, I have to sign a contract guaranteeing that my guests will book 80 percent of the rooms I've blocked by a month before the wedding. That doesn't leave much of a margin for error so I blocked a conservative number. With two hotels, it would be twice the headache, I'd think.

We are offering two options. One from our RH and another less expensive one down the road.

We only did one. We had a shuttle taking guests to the hall, so it wouldn't have made sense to have more than one hotel. Also, we had a brunch the next morning and that way everyone was already there.

We are doing exactly what you said and offering a mod/high and a mod/low priced hotel option. I've found that most of our friend's wedding invites have done the same thing.

It was my understanding that any blocked rooms that aren't booked were just rereleased back to the public if they are not reserved a month before the date . . . I was told that you don't have to pay out of pocket for anything.

Thats what I am doing. We blocked rooms at fox hollow and executive inn. But Ihad to block like 20 rooms, and will most likly need more than that!

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms . . . . . . . . .
yeah,
You don't pay anything to block rooms, you just sign a contract saying you want them to hold the rooms.
I did two hotels, one moderate, one higher end, both had the same policy of holding the rooms for up to one month before the wedding, then the rooms are released back for others. Once they're released the group discount no longer applies.
Apparently all my friends are last minute and got hotel rooms within the month of the wedding, which is seriously messing up my gift bags right now. DOH
