I need to block rooms for my wedding, because we are getting married out east and there are not that many places to stay and the same weekend we are getting married there is so much going on. Most of the B&B's are not giving us a problem, but one of the motels is asking for $6,000. Has anyone ever heard of this, I do not want to do this, if it is not normal!!!

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I'm getting married in Port Jefferson (some people consider that 'out east') -- we blocked at the Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook & didn't haveto put any $ down ourselves, but some places, like the Three Village Inn, wanted usto put down 1/2 the money for each room. I would keep looking to find alternatives. Good luck!

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I am getting married at the watermill in Smithtown. We blocked rooms out at the Holiday in Express in Hauppauge. It doesn't cost us anything. The hotel holds the rooms until one month before the wedding. Whatever rooms are not booked are released back to the hotel. Best of all, our hotel is providing free shuttle service for all guests to and from the reception.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I have never heard of that!! perhaps it's because it isn't a full service hotel? more of a mom and pop?
I would def do a search of the area.. look into doing a mapquest search and then select to see local hotels and give them a call..

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
That's crazy! I blocked rooms at the raddison and we didn't have to give them any money! In fact if 10 rooms are booked we get a free room the night of the wedding...Don't pay them anything!
