Hello! I think I need to block some hotel rooms. I am not sure how many to block or how this works. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? How much does it usually cost? Also, can anyone suggest a good hotel near The Thatched Cottage? TIA!

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
your best bet for the Centerport area is Melville. There is the Chalet Motor Inn there, but I'd check it out before you block.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
It doesnt cost you anything!! Go visit a few hotels and get prices. Fill out some info for the hotel and thats it. The people who are staying there pay, you dont pay anything since you are only 'blocking' rooms

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
It depends on the hotel and how many rooms you book. Your best bet is to call hotels in the area and find out their policies. My friend got married at the Thatched Cottage last year, and we all stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Hauppauge. I think the TC has some sort of arrangement with them, and they provided a shuttle bus

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
Hi..
I booked the Huntington Hilton. They are fantastic as they own a shuttle to help transport your guests. This costs $400.
You don't need to guarantee the rooms. You hold a certain amount. If not booked a month in advance, then they will release the blocked rate and people book based on availability. Rate is no longer locked.
Minimum is 10 rooms. Let me know if you need help looking into this

Word of advice, if they're not charging you or penalizing you in any way for unfilled rooms, block above and beyond what you think you'll need. I only did 10 rooms, and the first person who called took up 4 of them already... they won't let me add more until the block is filled and I'm not sure if they notify me when that happens... so I'm going to have to keep calling them

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
hey hall twin -
i am blocking rooms at the Holiday Inn Hauppauge (they provide a free shuttle with 10 or more rooms) - but in addition to that i gave the guests a list of three hotels and their price ranges - Chalet Motor Inn (for those who cant spend much - its not spectacular and its small- but i checked out the rooms and at least they were clean -and its walking distance!), The HOliday Inn, and the Hilton Homewood Suites in Melville (which is where we will be staying) - i just listed them with their prices ranges and let them know where we were going to be staying

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
Do a search of the hotels in the area and definitely visit them. I went to visit a couple and FH and I are so glad that we did, because after we saw some of them we wouldn't want our guests to stay there.
The rooms will usually be at a discounted rate from what they would normally go for. They might have you sign a contract that if you block a certain number of rooms and if they don't book up, you would be responsible to pay for them. If thats the case, ask to only block the minimum amount. If your guests book over the amount, they will honor the rates that they gave you.
