Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I'm getting married in October of this year and I got info from the hotels back in November of last year, but didn't block them until February of this year. So I did it about 8 or so months before.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I booked a block of rooms about 6 months before our wedding.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
We are getting married this july and last july i looked around. The hotel we wanted was already booked and would not block rooms. So we went wtih another. I would get on it ASAP.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
we blocked ours about 10 months from the wedding date. if you are getting married on a holiday weekend or a weekend there may be alot of tourists in town, i'd block them asap, otherwise 6-8 months is safe.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
we blocked them a little over a year in advance, summer is usually busy and we have a lot of OOTers. we wanted to make sure we could block plenty of rooms (we blocked 35) and hopefully keep everyone at the same hotel.
I'm really glad we did things early because our hotel changed management and prices went up substantially. The hotel is honoring our contract which is for a lower price than they are giving now.
We already have 16 rooms booked and wedding invites have not gone out yet.

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
Do it sooner rather than later, the hotels fill up quickly! Our hotel made us wait until it was the year of the wedding, but we had at least picked it out about a year in advance

this is true some make you wait until a year in advance, but the hotel we are using allowed us to block more than a year in advance, so we jumped on it because we needed a lot of rooms (40+). So you can start looking now, but not all will let you book yet. it doesn't hurt to look and ask though bc June is a busy month...
PS - we are date twins!

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I did 2 months ago for 10/09 wedding as it is a holiday wknd so depends on what the hotel allows(how far in advance) and also your date and how big place is

Re: Blocking hotel rooms
I agree with a lot of the previous posters, for summer weddings, block your rooms sooner than later! I just blocked my rooms for my wedding (next June). I figure it doesn't hurt to book early if the hotel allows you to do so. I didn't want to risk having to end up with a hotel that I didn't like...that was far away from the RH. Good luck!
