Blocking hotels

Blocking hotels

I have been trying to get info about blocking rooms from hotels, and am having trouble because its more than a year ahead. The wedding is May 28, 2006. I want to send my STD's right after Memorial Day this year with the hotel info.
SO, my question is: will hotels block rooms more than a year in advance. I want to get this done NOW.
TIA!!

Re: Blocking hotels

I work for a hotel company and you should be able to block them now. If they won't let you, maybe you can have them post date the contract, so you will have all of the rate info to send your guests.

I am getting married the same day as you and I have blocked rooms at two hotels already! I do not think it will be a problem!

This is great to hear as I was totally wondering the exact same thing. I figure if I'm sending out the STD's, I may as well send the hotel info so that I don't have to worry about sending invites early to get that stuff out there!

Re: Blocking hotels

We blocked our hotel rooms last July and our wedding is not until October - so 15 months in advance!

My wedding is not until May 6, 2006 and we have had blocks at 2 hotels since a year before the wedding.

Good luck!

My hotel let me block rooms in August of '04 which was over a year before. I guess it depends on the hotel.

Re: Blocking hotels

Also in my opinion it might be really early to send out the hotel info b/c people never want to do things a year in advanced. I have been trying to get my FILs to book rooms since NOvember & they finally did it. It takes peopel awhile. Since you are getting married on a holiday weekend I would send out the STD & then just send out your invitations early so that everyone can book. It could be that the hotels don't want to book too far in advanced b/c it is a holiday weekend but who knows--they all have thier own reasons. Good luck
