NO ONE has booked any of the rooms we blocked. I know some of my family booked at HoJo's. whatever... but we had one hotel extend the block date just in case people are waiting for the last minute.
what a waste of time and energy that was!!

My sster went through the same thing. She blocked hotels and no one used them. I don't know if we're going to do that. We might just include alost with phone # and hotels in the area. And we cna talk to the close OOT people and see if they want us to block. With all the online discounts, it's probably cheaper for every1 to go on their own.

I know I am waiting for people to book for mine. No one has yet. I want them to so that we can take advantage of the shuttle service and we get a disocunt off of our suite if 10 rooms are booked. I've got my fingers crossed.

Re: Blocking hotels-- what a waste of time!!!
We called around and got prices for hotels and Blocks But we decided that Hotels on Island are SO expensive and we don't know what they want to spend. When we sent out our Save the Dates we sent out a list of some of the hotels in the area with the phone # and our website address. On the Website we put the hotel phone # link to the hotel website and how far it was from to the swan club.

Can I say that it is such a relief to read your post! A relief in that I posted a while back about having to do this for guests and was wondering if it was worth it. I'm just sending out a list of websites, hotels and a range of rates of hotels.

I still think its a nice courtesy, because its not like it costs you anything. But that is fustrating I am sure.

Re: Blocking hotels-- what a waste of time!!!
Wow, I needed a post like this. I'm in the process of calling Inns, B & B's, Hotels right now & I'm wondering if it's worth it. I think it's going to be hit or miss w/ my guests. I have a feeling they are going to decide at the last minute to stay out there overnight, ya know? I'm getting married on a Sunday in November out in the Hamptons, so I don't think that all the Inns will be completely booked. Another thing is a LOT of the places I'm calling are asking for a deposit from me, & if my guests don't book the rooms, I'm basically screwed! I think I'm just going to put the hotel info on my website & just get the word out & let them fend for themselves , I have ENOUGH on my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Blocking hotels-- what a waste of time!!!
DO NOT book rooms if you have to give them a deposit. You are spending enough money - you should not be responsible for paying for guest's accommodations, especially if they decide not to use the hotel.
Many hotels will let you book up to a certain number of rooms without giving them a credit card. I booked 10 rooms at a very nice hotel, close to reception hall, 15 at a nice hotel closer to the church and will give the number of a third that is much cheaper and doesn't accept blocked reservations. It was not much of a problem for me and I found the hotel staff to be very nice. I don't know how many people will use them, but I figure since we have a lot of out of town guests, I wanted to at least give them some direction. The discounts weren't huge, but they will hold the rooms until a month before the wedding.

Re: Blocking hotels-- what a waste of time!!!
honestly, most people did not call the hotel until a week or two before our wedding. luckily there was plenty of room, so it wasn't an issue. people just wait for some reason!

Re: Blocking hotels-- what a waste of time!!!
I had a difficult time finding available rooms to block because I am getting married the weekend of the US Open Golf Tournament and every hotel from Shinnecock Hills to the Nassau Cty border were filled.
When I got 10 rooms at the HoJo near WM, I snagged them. I don't want my relatives staying at my house, so what choice do I have?
