If I wanted to block a group of rooms for the night of my wedding how exaclty does that work? Are we responsible to pay for the rooms that don't get booked? TIA

Re: Blocking Rooms
when u call the hotel to block the rooms, u will sign an agreement that says that 1 month before your wedding, any rooms not taken by your guests in your block will go back to being open to the general public. if guests miss the deadline to book in your block, they chance not getting a room or having tro pay a higher price.

But, beware! Some hotels make you pay for the rooms!!!!! Check first!!!

Re: Blocking Rooms
the above post is correct for some hotels however if you're planning on blocking at the inn at fox hollow you will be responsible for 1/2 of your block bein booked. example: if you block 12 rooms, at least 6 of them must be booked otherwise you will have to pay for the difference of what was booked and 1/2 of your block.

Re: Blocking Rooms
Thank you so much for telling me that! I was going to look into booking room as the inn at fox hollow but I don't even know if anyone would stay over so now I have to rethink that!

Re: Blocking Rooms
Is it acceptable to just put the business card and the information in with the invitation and not block rooms this way we are not respsonsible for them?

Re: Blocking Rooms
the good thing with blocking rooms at all the places we called (including the inn at fox hollow) is that your rooms count toward it and at the iafh you can spread it over several nights. our wedding is sunday and we're staying the night before and night of so those rooms will all count toward our minimum. we also blocked rooms at the melville marriott and fairfield inn (in woodbury) and they do not have a minimum requirement you are responsible for. it may be a good idea to block where you aren't responsible for a minimum so your guests will be eligible for a discounted rate but you won't be held accountable for it.

Good question...I was just going to do this this week. We're not sure exactly how many out of town people will actually come so we don't want to be responsible for rooms not taken.

Yea we're not staying there the night before and our room for the night of was already comped to us when we booked the hall so I don't know how that would work. I'm going to have to call and check this out. Do you know if there is a minimum avmount of room you could block? Like could I block only 10 rooms?

absolutely, I think 10 was what we originally were going to go with but then my relatives from upstate decided they would be staying over so we increased the number to block... we worked with peter potharn on it and he was very flexible.
