Blood Tests - How often?

How often did u or do you get your blood taken while preggo? Sister's dr. is taking it every month. Just curious if that is normal?

every month??? wow

I had 5 viles at 7 weeks
2 finger pricks at 12 wks and 16 wks for Ultra Screen and AFP
nothing till 26 weeks with GD then thats it

I had a lot of blood work done at 7 weeks, and then just 2 vials at 27 weeks with the GD test.

I had about 5 vials at 6 weeks and I am going tomorrow for an Ultrascreen test so I will have my finger pricked.
I think the AFP test is in 3 weeks .

Maybe my sister misunderstood. They took blood at 5 1/2 wks and again at 91/2 weeks so far. She doesn't go back now for another month. Her dr said she was taking it for Rubella and HIV (well maybe other things but that's all my sis remembered!). What do they normally take blood for?

In the beginning the take
blood type
if you consent they take the HIV
3 -4 other diagnostic samples (Im not sure if any test for STD's)

12 weeks is Ultra Screen (sono and blood test) (if you want it)
16 weeks is AFP (if you want)

26-28 weeks is GD (2 viles)

thats should be it.

It obviosuly varies by doctor because I only had about 3 viles taken at my first OB appointment then a finger prick for the blood sugar test at about 26 weeks. I chose not to have the AFP testing done.

alpha fetal protein which tests for down syndrom, spina bifida and one other genetic disorder.

I've had about 5 or 6 separate tests in last last 4 weeks because I'm spotting and there is no heartbeat yet.
