So, I have been trying to find a place near the Chrysler Building (where I work) to get a decent blow out at a decent price. Today I found a salon on Lexington on Citysearch that got good reviews and decided to try it out.
Wellllllllllllllllllll, $55 and an hour later my hair looks gross. I asked him to give me volume and accentuate my layers and it looks totally flat with tons of flyaways. I could have done a better job with a flat iron if that was the look I wanted (and saved myself time and money). Needless to say I am fuming. Mostly because I am sitting here at work and there all these flyaways keep going by my face and reminding me of my wasted time/money/effort.
Does anyone know of a place near 42nd and 3rd where I can get a blow out that does not S U C K or cost a million dollars? Is that possible in NYC?

Re: Blowout in NYC
honestly most places in the city i know of charge either $75 or $85 for a blow out depending on the stylist. More experienced will charge more and more new ppl would be $75
you can get good deals though sometimes.

I never get my hair done by big salons anymore. Oddly enough, the places that charge 20 dollars for a blow out always do a better job than the expensive places. When I was younger I used to get a blow at at Jean Louis David I think thats what its called and they would do an okay job.

I was actually going to say that! I've never been there, but I heard they are great. I think there's one on 34th bet. Lex and Park. Don't know if you want to stay closer. http://www.dramaticsnyc.com/
I think there's a Jean Louis David on 41st bet. Madison & 5th.

I agree. The place I go to on Staten Island I feel does a better job than most of the City places I have tried. I just like to get my grooming (nails, eyebrows, waxing, etc.) done during lunch so I have been desperately trying to find a decent hair place. It does not have to be fancy. They just have to do a quick, fabulous, cheap blowout, lol!

A few people from my office get their hair cut there. I have not tried them yet. That is a good idea.

There is a salon, unfortunately nowhere near your area, that only does blowouts. It's called 'Blow.' I think they charged me about $40. It's down in the village though.

Re: Blowout in NYC
depending what you get done the city is not always the best option. For color i go to the city but ive had my hair done for events a few times in the city and i hated it. They just have a different style when it comes to that and couldn't do what i wanted. Certain styles a queens place is better for me. They like the more natural look and if you want more done up the city is not the best to go to

Yeah there is an XO Blow down on 14th Street that only does blowouts and they are $40. It is a little out of my way, but at least I will get a good blowout for the money I paid. I hate being dissatisfied with my hair after I pay to get it done. That is the worst feeling.

I hear ya. I have a place on SI that I really like. I was just looking for a salon that I could use when I wanted to get my hair done without going home and going to the salon out there. This way if I am going for drinks in the City after work or whatever I can just run down to 'my blowout spot' and get my hair done on lunch.

Haha, the one I went to today that did such an awful job is Bon Bon, but it is on Lex and 39th. It is odd that they have two salons so close in proximity to one another, no?
