Ok, so originally I was thinking about having my girls wear black & pick their own dresses (they are all ages, all sizes and all of the country). I am getting married on a Sunday morning in May. I ask my FMIL her opinion and she says, “it’s not a funeral.” I told her I have a different opinion, that I’ve been to black & white weddings and I was very fond of it but I’ll see what my options are. (By the way, she wore white to my FBIL’s wedding! I’ve already nicely told her that won’t be happening with our wedding). Then another one of my bridesmaids tells me that she doesn’t like black, that she thinks it’s a bad omen. You know, people are just driving me nuts! When I booked my florist, I fell in love with a display they had of a centerpiece which was bright colors a of pinks, purples, whites, etc., and I want gowns that will match that. Ugh. Any opinions on this? Should I just choose a different color, and if I did, any suggestions on a color that would be good for all body types? Thanks!

If you want black, then I would go with black. My friend did the same thing, picked black and the girls got their own dresses, and it worked out great, everyone looked great, becasue the dress suited their own body type. And the BP has also wore thsoe dresses over and over, becaseu they are black. Your BP should thank you for being so accomodating, sicne you are not picking a dress for them. I would tell them, this is what I want, and any future complaining will be taken as an insult.

I think Black can be very elegant - and while it used to be out - I think black and white weddings have been in for at least 15-20 years now. If you decide you can't do the black - you could go with another dark neutral color such as navy blue - still dark and elegant just not black- you could also do a charcoal - either color would go beautifully with the bright color flowers you mentioned

take a look at the 'black and white' wedding thread. there is a picture of someones wedding with black BM dresses. it looks stunning. iam thinking about doing the same thing . . .

I think black and white weddings are more formal (Saturday evening), however if that is what you like, do it. Maybe a navy or mid-night blue if the girls aren't crazy about black?

I went through the same thing. Everyone told me that black is so broing blah blah blah. I choose black b/c it is very elegant, flattering on all body types, the girls can wear their own shoes and they can actually wear the dress again. I think every bride who chooses black hears the same thing. Also, I think of a black and white wedding only when the dresses are black and white. Most of the time the dresses are all black.

I am doing black and was undecided about it at first. But I am going to use bright colored flowers and since the dresses are a little expensive I am hoping the girls could wear the dresses again. I am surprised that anyone in the bridal party would object to black. Do what you want and don't listen to anyone else! It's your wedding!
