BM dress info for those who havn't ordered yet

I went with my friend last week to look at BM dresses. She is getting married in July and hasn't even made up her mind yet on colors.. .

While we were at the store the woman there told her she didnt have much time because the Chinese New Year is comming up.

I said, Huh? When is it?

It is basically the ENTIRE month of February the country like shuts down! All production stops. So they arn't making dresses then. So while she thought she had 9 month she has 8..... They said she should her order in by December or could be cutting it close. It would really only give her 5 months. Which while it still seems like a lot of time you want to give some lag time for mistakes, Alterations.. etc.

I had never heard of this and thought maybe it could help someone else out too.

WOW...thanks for the info! I'm getting married in July too & I too dont have my colors picked yet....yup, good times!

yup I've heard of this, only b/c I work in the industry. However, they don't shut down for a month, its a week or 2. Italy shuts down the most of the month in August (where she may have gotten confused). I think she's trying to push her a little you know?

There are other companies, though, that don't manufacture their dresses in China. I was told that Watters and Watters silk BM dresses are manufactured in Texas, so the Chinese New Year holiday would not be a factor.

I haven't ordered my BM dresses yet either and was told I should order them 5 months before the wedding. The saleswoman I'm dealing with is FMIL's friend and I really doubt she'd misinform me (or not be aware of this). That sounds a little strange, I'd check with your personal dress shop on this one (and for a time frame to order dresses in.

no worries.
i just dont want to put any pressure on my bm who is getting divorced. she just moved to her new place this past weekend and said she would try on and decide on a gown this weekend.
i hope she finds something she like

FYI - It really depends on the company. Most companies only close for a week bc they cannot afford to lose business. I only know this for sure since my mom is the VP of a company that has many factories throughout China.

But either way, better safe then sorry.
