Just have a few questions pertaining to BM dresses..hoping you girls could help me out.
When should I start going BM dress shopping? Who should I bring? If all my girls want to go, is it too much to bring 7 girls? Any reccomendations for bridal salons with a large selection (as well as a large range of sizes)?
Thanks!!

Re: BM dress questions
I'm starting to look tomorrw actually. I would like to have a definite BM dress picked out, even if I have the girls order it in a few months I definitely want to know for sure which one I'm choosing by the end of the summer. Honestly I wouldn't let all my BM come with me, I'm actually not having any of mine come with me I'm just bringing my mom and sister. When there are too many girls then there are too many opinions, wants and needs and sooo on and really I don't need that drama.

Re: BM dress questions
I've started looking and all of the stores have been telling me it takes 12 weeks for a dress to come in and some things to take into consideration are... styles get discontinued and new styles are always coming out, your color choice might change, do you have any bridesmaids who may lose/gain a alot of weight for any reasons including getting preggers... so of course this sent me into a panick....
I am going to try and bring as many people as possibe. I want them to be comfortable and have SOME input.
I would be interested to see where people have gone.... other than David's Bridal I don't know of any salons that have a range of sizes... every place I have gone has one of each dress and the sizes only range from 8-12. This is a pain especially since my sister/MOH is a size 4 and I can't tell how the dresses are going to look on her.

Re: BM dress questions
im getting married next may and i think im going to go bm dress shopping at the end of august or september. im gonna research a couple of different gowns online so i know which stores to hit. The first time shopping i think i may just bring my sister and 1 other bridesmaid. i have a total of 5 bm's. i think it may be chaotic if i bring all of them plus me and my mom all at once!

Re: BM dress questions
I think I am going to start shopping with the girls around the 9 months to go mark. If I were you I would bring whoever wants to / and is able to go at the time. I would let the bridal salon know that there will be seven bridesmaids with you if all of the girls go....this way they will tell you if you should bring less or if its totally fine for all of them to be there. I think it should be fine. You could always plan the day and have everyone split up into two groups or something and meet up at a local cafe for coffee and dress talk that way everyone can come together and talk about what they liked.

Re: BM dress questions
I went with my MOH only yesterday... I showed her the colors I wanted. I am letter her pick the style of the dress and designer as long as it matches the swatch.
My girls know better what they look good in than I do, so as long as they're all the same color -- I don't care.

Re: BM dress questions
I was told to order the BM dresses in Oct. so I just started looking last week...ur wedding is the day after mine.
I took one or two BMs at a time and plan on keeping that up until I find a winner. My BMs have strong oppinions and I do not want them to argue. I also do not want my oppinion to get lost. So I def. would not bring all 7 girls at first.
The wedding center in commack had A LOT of dresses - the woman working there did cut her toe nails while helping me 'rolleyes: but was nice. I did pull the dresses out myself though - after that toe business I thought it was better off
I also looked at bridal reflections in massapequa but think the wedding center has more dresses
good luck

Re: BM dress questions
I started looking with my girls in June. They will be ordering them in December.
For the first appointment, I brought my two MOH's (my sisters) and FSIL. I also brought my mom and FMIL. I let them all go through the racks and pull whatever they wanted to try on. After trying on about 50 dresses (the three girls combined), they were able to narrow it down to 2 they liked.
When I got home that night, I emailed all 7 girls pictures of the two dresses and had them take a vote.
Then I made another appointment about 2 weeks later and brought my other 3 local BM's (my last one lives in CA). I had them each try on the one that won the vote (which also happened to be the one that I liked best). It ended up looking great on everyone, so that's how we decided.
I think this was best because I just have a feeling that if I brought all 6 girls (not including the one in CA) on the first shopping day, it would've been too overwhelming. Too much estrogen, too many opinions, etc.
PS - we went to Lillette's. They have a pretty good selection and most of the samples were around a size 10 or 12.
I'd go no later than 10 months prior I brought only my MOH the first time I think its a bit much to bring 7 girls we went to David's Bridal...

Re: BM dress questions
my wedding is in april and i just went yesterday. i originally planned to go a few mths later but my sister/moh is preggers so we wanted to go before she was too big to try stuff on.
i originally was gonna just go with my sis/moh but i decided to invite all the girls. I have 9 total and only 4 were able to come yesterday. It actually worked out having only a few girls bc the day went really great...not as many different opinions and no major conflicts. I am not sure if having more ppl there would have gone as smoothly, but it may have you never know.

Re: BM dress questions
Thank you for all your feedback!! I'm thinking of going in Sept. I want to bring my MOH...but she's a plus size so I cant really go to the stores that have 10/12 as sample sizes. I think I might try David's Bridal.

Re: BM dress questions
i would bring your MOH at least, i dont think you have to bring all 7 girls... then it might get a little chaotic lol.. i am picking my BM dress when i go look for dresses in 2 weeks.. so i think if you want to go in sept thats fine!

Re: BM dress questions
I would start sometime in the Fall, that's when all the new collections will be out. The Wedding Center in Commack has the biggest selection I've seen. But they don't take appointments, so on the weekends it can be crazy. I would bring your MOH. When we went, we narrowed it down to three dresses, then brought all the girls back to choose. - hth

Re: BM dress questions
I always think you should bring the biggest people in your bridal party. Skinny people look good in just about everything. Samples of 10/12 might fit but won't close in the back, I had this wedding gown shopping myself. Consider everyone in your bridal party to make sure everyone looks good. All too often you see 1 or 2 girls look uncomfortable.

Re: BM dress questions
When I went I took my mom sister ( MOH ) and one BM we found the dress we loved but I went to another store with all my girls and we looked at other dress andI did not like any of them so I went to another salon and that had the first Bm dress i picked out they all loved it I compared prices and found the second salon had the best prices and could order the dress, I still have two more girls who need to order and the dress which takes 12 weeks to arrive but you should allow an extra 4 weeks.

Re: BM dress questions
I went BM shopping eysterday for first time. We went to Helen's and they were super awesome there. We found some Bill Levkoff dresses we liked for my sisters (my MOHs) and then we're going to look for a different style for the other BMs. I will probably pick a couple other styles and I'm going to put them in a bridal newsletter so each girl can see them, then based on that we can try to make appointments so they can see them, either all together or separately.
